I think IG basically wants content that keeps people on Instagram. If people watch it, share it, save it or start a conversation from it, those are all pretty strong signals.
 
Shares and watch time are probably more important than just likes.

Instagram seems to reward content that keeps people watching and makes them want to share or interact with it. Followers come naturally from that.
 
yeah @ViewCloak is spot on about saves, but honestly dont sleep on DMs. the head of IG actually said a while ago that they rank stuff based on how much people share it in private messages. i started making content specifically designed to be sent to a friend and my reach went up quite a bit. its all about starting conversations in the inbox.
 
Instagram uses the 3-5 second watch time as a reference on who to show the content to. Depending how many people react to the content, that is what Instagram uses to push the content to new users
 
tbh it really comes down to retention first. if you cant get people to watch past the first few seconds and actually finish the video, they aren't going to share it anyway. likes are pretty much useless now for reach, it's all about getting them to send it to a friend or save it.
 
Engagement and shares are the most important ones for attracting steady attention. Likes and followers also help, but meaningful engagement shows that people are actually interested in the content.
 
Comments shares saves & conversations can help keep people interested. Likes & followers are helpful too but consistent and natural interaction seems more important over time. Genuine interaction seems to make the biggest difference.
 
I think the number of followers and likes are still the basics. They drive more traffic, and only when an account has traffic will it generate more engagement and shares. That’s my opinion.
 
I dont think Instagram rewards just one thing. Good engagement is important, but when people share or save a post, that’s a stronger sign that the content is actually getting attention.
 
DMs can matter a lot if you’re trying to get customers. They show that someone wants to know more instead of just scrolling past.
