Hopefully, the followers I had when I was still running my travel blog haven't left yet.
Choosing a YouTube topic is so difficult

You should return to your original topic, as your current followers are interested in food and travel; if you plan to adjust your content or target a different audience, it would be better to start a new channel rather than using the existing one.

Changing the niche can affect the channel. If you wanna do something different then try it out on a new channel.

It's so obivious, you already have audience for travel and food content and they don't watch videos on other topic.. so the engagement dropped. Don't evrer combine two different niche content in a single channel. If the channel already have some audience. You will not only loose engagement but hurting your brand also. try different channel for different niche contents.

At that time, I was too focused on traffic and forgot about the possibility of creating a new channel with different content. As a result, I'm now stuck between conflicting thoughts.
I’m going to start making travel and food vlogs again. I hope viewership remains steady after the time I spent focusing on other topics.
I was too hasty in thinking that the new topic would explode in popularity and potentially last a long time, forgetting that the initial follower count for me was a different topic.

I’d return to travel/food, or at least test a gradual shift back. With 200k subs, the engagement drop is likely because the new topic doesn’t match why most people subscribed.
More importantly, if the new format is exhausting you, it probably isn’t sustainable long term.

Why don't you start a new channel? In this way your old channel will be unaffected.
You took a wrong step to switch from food travel to finding missing people content on same channel because these are two different contents and youtube never allows to do this. You should have to keep both contents on two separate channels. Because posting two different contents on same channels can lose the interest of early content audience thats why you facing less engagement on your channel.

At first, I was really excited about the new theme of finding relatives, perhaps because the travel market was already oversaturated. The search proved more difficult than I expected. I should reconsider.

I’d test the old content again before making a full switch. Drop 3–5 travel/food videos and watch CTR, retention and comments. If those numbers wake back up, you’ve got your answer. No need to blow up the whole channel overnight.
