My website was ranking for almost all of my targeted keywords, but the June/July Google updates hit the site pretty hard and I lost rankings across the board.
I then implemented a new content strategy, and fortunately, many of the keywords started recovering and returned to their previous positions.

But now the latest August update has rolled out, and I’m seeing another significant drop in rankings for some of those keywords.

The confusing part is that the website already has good authority in the niche and a decent backlink profile.

Has anyone experienced something similar with the recent updates?

what should i do now

I wouldn't recommend making another major change immediately. Since your rankings recovered after the content strategy but dropped again with the August update, I'd first isolate which keywords and page types were affected and compare them against the pages that gained visibility.

I haven't experienced this yet but since you started noticing it after the new update, let's give it few weeks, hoping things pick up again.

I would avoid making big changes while the update is still settling. First figure out exactly which pages and queries lost visibility.

I’d first separate update-related volatility from a real site-level issue. Compare the pages that lost rankings with pages that gained, then look for patterns in intent, content quality, and backlinks before changing the strategy.

such an approach may backfire. the most appropriate course of action would be to figure out which pages do not rank, compare those pages with other ranking pages, and figure out why the former are not ranking.

You can wait for some time. Also, first check which pages and keywords lost the most visibility and compare them with the pages that replaced them in the SERPs.

Also check whether the new content strategy, internal links or recent backlinks changed anything around those pages. Once you get the clear details, make smaller changes instead of changing the whole site again.

I'd probably wait a bit before making any big changes. Google updates can move rankings around quite a lot at first. Check which pages and keywords actually dropped and compare them with what is ranking now. If your content and backlinks are still solid, changing everything too quickly could just make things more confusing. Give it some time, then work on the pages that are still down.

The latest spam update has been pretty killer; I'd wait it out before doing anything because there is a non-zero chance they do a partial rollback if the false positive rate was too high.

Yes, I’d treat this as a diagnosis problem first, not a “publish more content” problem. There is an officially listed August 2026 spam update, which started August 18 and lasted about 2 days and 16 hours, so it’s worth separating update-related movement from normal ranking volatility.

First check if the traffic drop happened around the update. Then compare the pages that dropped with the pages that are still ranking and see what’s different.
