how long should a warmup period last?

It's not a fixed time period. For high authority sites, you can achieve almost anything within days. For new properties could require weeks to months. A site like CNN or Google dot com can basically kickstart any other website in minutes literally. So the answer is it depends.

Depend on the type of account, if it is new, i would give it a few weeks, if it rented, around 1 weeks or at least until some clicks and budget have been spend.

With legitimate campaigns, it would be better to ensure that your ad message or keywords match the landing page right from the start instead of working to warm it up on various content. There is no such thing as a warm-up period as well.
