Index bloat is something I keep seeing, especially on Shopify stores, large blogs, and sites that auto-generate tag or filter pages. The problem isn’t backlinks or content quality, it’s too many low-value URLs getting indexed. Tag pages, filtered URLs, pagination, thin archives, and duplicate variations all end up in Google’s index.
When that happens, the crawl budget gets wasted, and authority gets diluted across hundreds of useless pages instead of being concentrated on money pages. After cleaning it up, noindexing low-value URLs, consolidating duplicates, and setting proper canonicals, the site usually becomes much more stable.
Rankings stop fluctuating randomly, and important pages start performing better because link equity and crawl signals are finally focused where they should be.
