Hi,

I have done some testing with different approaches to the ai visibility, and one pattern keep showing up as ai specifics optimization works better when underlying seo signals already strong.

In my view , topical relevance, editorial mentions, original data , relevant backlinks and entity signals provides strong context for search engines and ai systems to understand brand.

My takeaway is here as, GEO and AEO treated as additional layer not replacement for solid seo and digital PR fundamentals.

Any thoughts?

The AI specific optimization can help, but it doesn’t have much to work with if the site has weak authority or poor topical relevance. Strong content, real mentions, and solid digital PR seem to give GEO and AEO a much better base I think.

Strong seo fundamentals should come first, relevant backlinks, topical authority, brand mentions & original content give ai systems better context, geo/aeo can add value but they shouldn't replace the basics

Digital PR makes sense here because it can build signals beyond traditional on-page optimization. AI visibility probably benefits from the same authority and relevance that support organic rankings.

Topical relevance, quality backlinks, editorial mentions, original data and strong entity signals give AI system the context to understand and trust a brand so I think GEO/AEO as an additional layer, not a replacement for SEO and digital fundamentals,

AEO/GEO tends to work better when the foundation is strong. It doesn’t mean digital PR or traditional SEO becomes unnecessary when working on AEO/GEO.

I agree .

GEO/AEO seems to work much better when the site already has strong SEO fundamentals and clear topical authority.

AI visibility can amplify existing trust signals but it’s not really a replacement for quality content, relevant backlinks, digital PR and entity building.

Digital PR helps with brand authority, so definitely it helps with AI SEO. And of course you should do basic and regular SEO and then focus on digital PR for brand signals and authority

Absolutely agree.

GEO and AEO works best when the core SEO foundation is already strong topical authority, trusted backlinks, editorial mentions, original data and clear entity signals give AI systems much better context to understand and trust a brand.

GEO should complement solid SEO and digital PR not replace them.

Definitely!, Solid SEO forms the basis, while GEO/AEO is the additional step to make AI visible.

But without having topical authority, trusted mentions, and good backlinks related to the topic, AI focused optimization.

We are learning day by day that what exactly bot visit and read, will be best source such as reddit and instagram.

Imo Digital PR is becoming more significant becuz AI needs to have something tangible to feed off of. gud branding nd solid SEO is likely to trump any sort of AI optimization.

I agree. The sites seeing the best AI visibility gains usually already have strong SEO foundations. Topical authority, brand/entity signals, editorial mentions, original research, and quality backlinks seem to make GEO/AEO efforts far more effective than standalone AI optimization tactics.

Imo ,DIGITAL PR isnt a replacement for ai seo, and AI-SEO isnt a replacement for Digital PR. For long-term ai visibility, I would treat digital PR as one of the stronger foundational investments and GEO/AEO as the optimization layer.

yeah i would definitely give PR an edge over most GEO hacks. a single good mention from a related publication will helps your brand recognition far more than the pages written specifically for SEO.

AI visibility works much better when the website already has strong topical authority and trustworthy signals. GEO/AEO can help improve how information is structured and understood by AI systems, but they shouldn’t replace the fundamentals like relevant backlinks, editorial mentions, strong content, entity signals, and overall SEO authority score.

I'd put Digital PR more on the supporting side than treat it as another AEO tactic. Optimizing your pages for AI doesn't create much trust on its own. If a brand is also being mentioned in relevant publications, reviews, research or other independent sources, there's simply more context for an AI system to work with.

I wouldn't say you need news coverage or third-party mentions before AI can surface your content, though. Google's own guidance doesn't really support that idea. The usual SEO fundamentals still matter for AI features.

So I see GEO/AEO as an extra layer on top of good SEO and content, while PR helps build credibility outside your own site. How much it matters probably depends a lot on the niche and how competitive the queries are.

Yeah I agree with that. GEO/AEO can be improved by how a brand is understood and surfaced by AI, but it can't compensate for a weak overall SEO and authority profile. So We should concentrate on onpage and offpage before targeting GEO/AEO

I agree that strong SEO fundamentals should come first Digital PR and relevant mentions can add another layer of authority rather than replacing the basics

Agree with the thread but notice what everyone is actually listing as the fundamentals. Relevant backlinks, authority, entity signals. Strip the new vocabulary off and that is the same link graph it has always been. GEO and AEO are a display layer on top of it.

The part worth saying out loud is that AI answer engines pull their citations from the same graph. Pages with links behind them get cited, pages without do not. So link building did not get replaced by AI search, it got a second job.

Digital PR is one way to feed that graph. It is also the slowest and most expensive way. I have been doing this long enough to have watched four or five "links are dead" cycles, and the practical answer every time was the same. Build the links, build them at scale, and let the display layer call itself whatever it wants this year.
