How close are you to becoming the person you once imagined you’d be?

When we were kids or teenagers, most of us imagined what our lives would be like when we grew up where we would live, what kind of job we would have, how much money we would make, and who would be around us.
Now that we’re older, it’s interesting to look back and see how much of that actually came true.

My life is very much different from what I wanted to become. Still, I have accepted this and trying to enjoy my current work.

It seems too far away now. When I was a child, my dream was to become an actor like Jackie Chan. But my teacher mocked my dream in front of all my classmates when I was in my first year of junior high school, so I gave it up....

Not even close, I wanted to be an astronaut haha!

Sometimes you dont know what is best for you, so embrace that it worked out another way instead.
I think the most important thing is to be happy with who you’ve become, even if that person is a little different from who you once imagined you would be

Honestly? Not even close to what I imagined at 20. But the funny thing is — what I'm actually doing now is way more interesting than what I thought I wanted back then.
I used to think success meant a corporate job, a nice title, and a stable paycheck. Never in a million years would I have guessed I'd end up running paid traffic campaigns for emerging markets in Africa, negotiating deals with affiliate networks, and working completely remotely from wherever I want. Younger me would have no idea what any of that even means.
The path was anything but linear. Failed at a few things, pivoted hard twice, and the skills I actually use every day — media buying, data analysis, negotiation — I never learned in school. I picked them up by doing and by losing money on bad campaigns.
I think the gap between who you imagined and who you are isn't a failure — it just means you found better information along the way and adjusted. The people who stuck rigidly to their 18-year-old self's plan are usually the least happy ones I know.

I think I've surpassed what I as a kid thought I'd be in the future.

Asides from wanting to go to space..but there's still time.

i have high ideals, always had, never left them. but my real life forced me to accept pragmatic choices, and every day i am further from my ideals.
i don't know anymore what is real me, and what i really want to be

Impossible to say since what I've always imagined myself to be would change every 5-7 years. Now I don't imagine anything anymore and try to live my life for others (family, friends, the kids in my community who need support). I'm not religious or anything. I don't even believe in a god or greater power. I just don't have any major life ambitions other than to just be secure and comfortable.

Materially, I am still far away from the life I once imagined. I don’t have a big house or the kind of lifestyle I used to dream about.
But spiritually, I feel much richer than before. I have learned and experienced many things that I never even dared to imagine in the past!

I always dreamed of serving my country, but unfortunately, things did not work out and that dream was shattered. Today, I am happy that in my own small way, I get to do something similar here on BHW sharing what I know, helping people around me, and learning something new every day. Maybe the path changed, but the purpose of serving and contributing is still there.
