Yesterday tried to brainstorm two paragraphs of content for specific thing I was doing and was shocked to find out I was unable to produce it with good quality. Back in the day, this wouldn't have been a problem. Surely AI is stripping me out of my creativity and making me dumber.

I am sure neurons aren't lost forever, it's just that I stopped exercising that part of brain responsible for that task.

But that made me think.

You're doing no good for your brain if you delegate even the tiniest tasks to AI...

AI IS MAKING US DUMBER & IT MIGHT BE HARD TO SEE

or its giving you a new benchmark to compare yourself to
I am not too optimistic that is a case.

It certainly made me more lazy. And I allowed it. Because it's just that good. Almost too good.

Definitely not making US dumber :D
AI gave me a super boost in knowledge about everything I asked.

It's now way harder to fool me with fake info or manipulate me since I can just fact check in seconds.

I learned how many things work, I learned much about food quality, about biology, about mental health and etc...

AI is the best creation of intelligent part of humanity after vaccines, antibiotics, electricity and telecommunication.

i would say it makes us to think less critical when we need to achieve something complex
but seconds hands and productivity that it gives us is the main benefit

nowadays wtihtout AI humans will go slower than with it, but for every technology there is the price, yes

for me i dont think its making us dumber but to make us come up with a good strategy to work on and put the other effort on other task that AI cant work on for you and the goal is the aim not the process

I guess you can look at it in two ways and one is what you have shared here, which I would humbly admit has happened to me on so many occasions : D

I would just end up throwing everything at AI to get it done for me, which justifies what you're trying to say here because it's like any other skill.

If you don't do something for so long, you might lose touch with it and have to retrain yourself to get good at it again.

Then, on the other hand, getting things done with AI is a form of creativity on its own too because I know for sure it has helped me become way more creative and better able to execute the ideas I have now.

It's also faste, and right now the world runs at a crazy speed.

So I think it's more about utilizing this new ability we have been given, just like we've done whenever new technology has been invented, right from way back to what we are seeing now

If we can't brainstorm 2 paragraphs of content about something we supposedly master/are interested in, now imagine critical thinking...governments love this shit

nah, you can't fact check
AI can fact check
you depends on it

and AIs are very manipulable, this is a black hat forum, several guys are here manipulating it to improve a brand reputation based on fake reviews and lies
now imagine governments manipulating it according to their needs and creating narratives, making the other side be considered as "fake news"
anyway, it's LLM, not AI, we don't have authentic AIs yet, just parrots repeating what they read somewhere else hoping it's reliable and not based on propagandas, fake reviews or press releases promoting themselves

AI don't manipulate like media does, even if they still have space to improve, they don't lie as much as media does.

And you are 100% right, it's not AI yet, but it's more than LLMs too, since it can improve itself alone.

Anthropic says fable was 80% coded by claude, like self-coding (of course with engineers reviews)... This is very near an autonomous intelligence... because to be honest people are working in the same way. We are generating sounds that are associated with something to send a message.

Who knows how it will be in 10 years, because in the last 2 years it went from generating Lorem Ipsum to being among 1% smartest engineers in the world.

I don't think AI will make me become dumber, because I was already not very smart to begin with this

I don't think I can confidently hand over even simple tasks to chatgpt or gemini. I always end up verifying the results myself because I have asked chatgpt to calculate some very simple things several times, and it still made mistakes. So now I basically don't use these AIs for something that is truly important.

However, I also know that it is probably because I am not smart enough and simply cannot truly utilize AI.

The final result is that I’ll get angry and start yelling.

Maybe we need to leave ourselves some space to think. With so much content readily available, we tend to find ourselves consuming something almost all the time whenever we have a spare moment, leaving little room for our minds to wander and be creative.

Using AI as our help is where it enhances our creativity and productive skills. But, relying mostly on AI is where we start entering into our dumb phase of devolution :D

I’ve caught myself doing this too. If I let AI write everything, then suddenly I’m staring at a blank doc and have no idea how to start. It’s probably less about losing creativity and more about not using that muscle as often.
Lately I’ve been forcing myself to write the rough version first, then use AI to clean it up. Feels better that way.
