Can one early downvote kill a good reddit post ?

It absolutely does.

Why would the Reddit algorithm push a post when early user sentiment is negative?

I've noticed the same thing. Early votes can help with momentum, but i don't think one downvote kills a post. good content can still pick up if people start engaging with it.

Reddit relies heavily on initial engagement (velocity), so just one or two early downvotes can kill a post in the "News" section.

Early engagement does matter, but a couple of downvotes don't mean that your post won't get seen.
