How can internal linking be optimized for news sites?

I like keeping internal links as natural as possible on news sites I'd probably connect fresh articles to older relevant stories and update important pages regularly
That seems like a good way to help readers discover more content without making the links feel forced

I focus on making internal linking clear and useful for news sites. I link related articles to guide readers through a story and add context. I use descriptive anchor texts so users and search engines understand what the linked page covers. I create evergreen cornerstone articles that support new content and link back to them often. I regularly update links to avoid broken paths and keep relevance. I place links where they add value, such as "Read More" or related stories sections. This keeps readers engaged and helps search engines crawl the site better.

The question I want to ask you guys is that How do you handle internal linking for your news site?
For news sites, I’d focus less on a fixed linking formula and more on context + freshness. New articles should link to the relevant evergreen/authority pages, while older relevant stories should be updated when a major story develops. I also like topic hubs for recurring subjects so Google can understand the relationship between stories.

In news websites, I prefer creating connections between new stories and old articles that relate to them as long as the story is still fresh. In my opinion, related posts system can work wonders, yet manual link building is not less important.
