hardest part is knowing where to focus first there are so many things to work on that it's easy to waste time i usually look at content quality and the biggest weaknesses of the site first then work on links and other areas
I think the hardest part of SEO is deciding where to focus because content, links, technical SEO and rankings all depend on each other. For me, understanding search intent and consistently creating useful content is the biggest challenge-it takes time before the results show.

Probably figuring out if a ranking drop is something you messed up or Google just shuffled things around. easy to waste hours fixing stuff that wasn't even broken lol.

Finding the right keywords can be hard it takes time to find keywords that can bring good traffic.

For me, the hardest part is prioritization. SEO has endless things you can improve, but the challenge is identifying what will actually move traffic or revenue.
I usually do search intent/content gaps → pages with existing ranking potential → internal linking → authority building,

Links are usually hardest because finding quality placements takes time and budget content can be planned easier when keywords and topics are already clear.

Most of the thread's landing on the same thing: prioritizing. Worth asking why it's so hard here when it isn't in other channels.
Run ads and you know inside a week. You can hold a control group. With SEO, you change five things over eight weeks, something moves, and you can't tell which one did it. So you credit whatever you already believed in, and next site you prioritize the same thing again.
What's helped me is running it like an experiment even though it's slower. A dated log of every change, one type of change at a time, and a chunk of comparable pages left completely alone. Two or three rounds of that and you know what moves your sites, which isn't the same as knowing what moves sites in general.
Useless on a 5 page site, you need enough pages to split. But for anything of decent size, it turns the guessing into something you can actually point at.

Honestly the hardest part ain't content/links/rankings themselves, it's patience to not chase every shiny new tactic every time somethin dips

For me, it's staying patient while a strategy plays out. SEO gives you delayed, noisy feedback, so it's genuinely hard to tell if something isn't working or just hasn't had time to show results yet. Everything else (technical fixes, content, links) feels manageable in comparison. It's the uncertainty of the waiting period that trips people up most.

Content creation can be streamlined with proper workflows, but acquiring natural, niche-relevant backlinks that actually pass authority without triggering algorithmic filters requires continuous outreach and testing.

I'd say prioritization is the hardest part. There are so many SEO tasks to work on, and figuring out what will move the needle most isn't always obvious.
