How Can I Get My First Clients For My New Digital Agency

Hi everyone

I am currently starting my own digital agency and I have recently launched my new website as well

The website is ready but now I am trying to figure out how to get my first few clients

For those who have started an agency from scratch what worked best for you in the beginning

Did you focus on cold outreach social media freelance platforms referrals seo or paid advertising

I would really appreciate some practical advice from people who have already built an agency and found consistent clients
You can do work for free, in your country, to get testimonials first and after you service 5 clients for free, you can start charging small amounts of money and getting your services gradually more expensive every 5 clients, until you reach the price that you want to sell.

id narrow the offer first. Digital marketing is vague, but helping dental clinics turn missed calls into bookings is clear.

Then put together a short teardown showing the problem, what you’d change and exactly what they get. Even without a big portfolio, they can still judge how you think.

I’d recommend starting with cold outreach and referrals. Choose a specific niche, send personalized offers, and focus on getting your first 3–5 clients. Once you have results and testimonials, it becomes much easier to grow.
Yes agree with this....

In 2020 i have started with referrals that work incredibly great for me. some of our initial clients still working with us. so start with referrals and cold outreach while slowly building your own brand and content distribution.. I think this workss in 2026
yes cold outreach work

Breaking the ice with new clients felt like pulling teeth at first, but sending short videos in my outreach bumped my reply rate way up. If you know your niche well, sharing quick wins or small tips from day one keeps people interested. For those early gigs, I've swapped free audits for testimonials, which built social proof on the cheap. LinkedIn DMs got me better leads than Upwork in 2026, no joke.

For the first few clients, I’d narrow the offer to one niche and solve one clear problem. Cold outreach works better when the message is specific and backed by a quick audit or example.

start with targeted outreach and referrals before spending heavily on ads Pick a clear niche show a few useful case studies or examples and focus on building trust before scaling lead generation.

I’d start with cold outreach and referrals. Find a specific niche reach out to potential clients directly get a few results and use those results to build trust and get more clients.
