Hi all,
I’m planning to create an original research/statistics kinda article in the saas/martech space with the goal of getting more brand mentions from reputed news websites. I’m trying to figure out the best outreach strategy. a few questions:

would you recommend any specific sites i can outreach?
what type of people should I target? editors, journalists, writers, researchers, content managers or publishers?
is there a way to find and qualify these contacts in bulk?

would love to hear from anyone who has successfully promoted original research and earned organic mentions/citations from it.

your insights are always helpful. Thank you all in advance! :)

Id also make the research easy for others to reference. A few strong charts, quotable stats and a clean methodology page can make a big difference… If journalists can quickly grab a useful stat without digging through a huge article, they’re more likely to cite it

Would try to reach out to journalists or writers who have covered SaaS/martch data before. Compile a small list using recent relevant articles and send my best stat along with the source and visualiation.

Just curious, did you run this Q through an AI? It'll probably give you a hundred ideas ;)

I’d focus less on the publication itself and more on finding journalists/editors who already cover your topic. Targeting people who have shared similar research or data-driven stories usually makes outreach much more relevant and effective. For finding contacts at scale, LinkedIn and media databases can work well together.

Use tools like Muck Rack, Cision for Journalist contacts. These are the tools mostly used by digital PR companies

Few of my friends who runs digital PR campaigns get at least 5 to 10 brand mentions and links from each release

It would be more beneficial to target journalists specializing in SaaS, AI, and your research topic instead of reaching out to everyone.

In terms of approach, a brief and customized pitch that includes 1,2 exciting results from your study along with methodology is more efficient than a standard press release.
