Hi everyone,

I’m thinking about starting a new physical product business by importing goods from China, selling them in my country (in MENA), and scaling the business over time.

Since I’ve worked mainly online for the past decade, I don’t have much experience with wholesale and physical products. I’m looking for a product category that is relatively safe, profitable, and suitable for testing on a small scale before investing more.

Do you have any recommendations for product categories that would be good for a beginner?

Import trade seems not to come to this section, as the cost is too high and the capital occupation is too much, while the turnover rate is too low.

Wholesale to Retail works as does dropshipping with some things to watch out for. Buying wholesale requires capital to order so much product, even the MOQ. China has Alibaba/1698 and couple other platforms, one is more English than the other.

Wholesale orders from distributors I can get from my sales directories. I have AMZScout lifetime I invested $1500 in, which is basically the AMZ product research tool like JungleScout or whichever. If you dont have a software I would look into eBay Product Research feature because it shows how many sales you can get. Tell me your niche by DM and I will see if I can use my software for you, though its not on this current machine.

Setup on all the platforms and have tested some. Scaled dropship gross income to $1400 before Christmas ruined my main account with all the refunds/returns/cancellations on one platform. Look into the highest traffic platforms for eCommerce, there some gaining market share. Walmart requires EIN for their marketplace and has you cover the cost of shipping, though its buy box is like AMZ. Ive seen some item catelogue barcode scanners, essentially, that find the highest ROI product. Dont forget Keepa charts for AMZ, plus theres some things like cart trick etc. I dont do FBA as the fees seem high per product, atleast when I was selling lower ticket.

My plan to get back into eCommerce is diversify methods, though keep more shipping in-house. You need a reseller permit in my country/state or you pay tax on the buying side, I have a small state bill to pay first. I can setup my own web store with WooCommerce, another edge. USA has tarrifs now which sounds new and confusing, though you can buy from warehouse that ships from your country.*

Im liking PLR (couple niches), branded wholesale to retail and custom product lines.
Heres some methods I see/hear being taught:
-PLR
-General/Niche Store (*DS plugin)
-Platforms (DS integrations)
-Retail Arb.
-FBA (Wholesale to Retail)
-Online to Offline

Thanks for sharing your experience, But my case is a bit different.
I have +15 years of Digital Marketing experience, and i had many drop-shipping websites.
But as mentioned i want to do these in my country, and my country is one of top 3 sans actioned countries in the world, there is no Amazon, Ebay, .. and can't Dropship directly from Alibaba or AliExpress and others.
The only way is to buy wholesale, and import then distribute it in different ways.
But my experience is with international market, not mine, that's why im Asking the starting question

It is essential to begin with trustworthy supplier and only proceed to make bulk order after receiving samples.

Dropshipping is a good way to test if the product has demand I would start with that.
