If you had to choose only one factor that makes a local business rank better – what would you pick? Reviews, Google Business Profile optimization, local backlinks, citations or something else?

Fully optimized Google Business Profile
Reviews with keywords
Regular posts of HQ working images
Citations
Local Backlinks

Optimizing your profile is very important. Then gradually build reviews.

For me, it would be Google Business Profile optimization combined with genuine customer reviews. A well-optimized profile builds local relevance, while consistent positive reviews strengthen trust and credibility.

Having an optimized Google Profile. This is the singular most important factor that can increase your business ranking

If only one, I would go with profile optimization over other.

Reviews and only reviews.
Profile optimisation is just another term for wasting time.

Proximity, but that's cheating since you can't do anything about it. In a dense city, nobody outranks distance.

Of the things you can actually change, the Google Business Profile. Everything else feeds into it, and most businesses have one that's half finished. Categories especially. People set them once when they claim their profile and never look at them again.

Reviews after that. Closest thing to a real quality signal, and Google leans on them more than it used to.

Citations and local links matter, but they're foundation work, not a lever you pull for quick movement.

Though it's really a stack rather than a list of options. And whoever's asking usually has one obvious gap. Nine times out of ten, it's the profile.

There are many factors that determine business rankings on Google Maps; you can send me a DM for more detailed information on this topic or to discuss it further. Getting reviews alone isn’t enough—unless, of course, you’re not aiming for the top spot.

Optimizing the presentation of information, reviews, content, and backlinks remains relevant.

Good quality of reviews and NAP consistency throughout the internet.

Maintaining a consistent NAP is important along with reviews and Google business listing optimizationn,.

If I had to pick one, I’d choose a well-optimized Google Business Profile. Reviews and local links help a lot, but the GBP is usually the base everything else builds on.

probably having a well thought out GB profile matters

For me it is the GBP with genuine reviews. backlinks does help but if the profile is active and the reviews were genuine and relevant that is when I have usually noticed a greater impact.
