Is it safe to run duplicate Google Search campaigns temporarily while new campaigns learn?

I currently have two active Search campaigns using Maximize Clicks with CPC caps. The current ads combine unrelated remodeling services that we cover, so I need to build two replacement campaigns with specific service-based ad groups, keywords, headlines, and descriptions. The current campaigns do get some traffic and I can't afford any downtime (to edit them, go through more learning, etc.), so this is the best solution after much research.

The new campaigns will temporarily use many of the same keywords as the current campaigns. My plan is to keep the old campaigns active while the new ones go through Learning and begin serving consistently, then pause each old campaign once its replacement is getting enough impressions and clicks.

Could temporarily running the duplicate keywords/campaigns cause problems with learning, ad relevance, CPCs, traffic allocation, or future performance? Could pausing the old campaigns afterward interfere with the new campaigns or trigger another Learning period? Should I not overlap them once the new campaigns are done learning?

Really appreciate any help from someone that really knows. Google's customer support has been the absolute worst. Thanks.

first, your campaigns wont bid against each other inside the same account, google only picks one ad per auction so no double cpc. but the pick usually goes to whoever has more history = your old campaigns, so the new ones will barely get traffic and never finish learning. the overlap kinda kills itself

honestly the learning thing is not a big deal on maximize clicks, thats more a tcpa/troas problem, i would just launch the new ones and pause the old ones same day, clean switch. pausing old campaigns doesnt reset anything on the new ones. expect a few weird days and dont touch settings, thats it.

Keeping both campaigns for a short time should be fine. Let the new one get some traffic first, then pause the old one.

Same keywords are not autmetically a problem, but having two campaigns competing for similar searches can make the data harder to read.

Running duplicate search campaigns simultaneously causes internal keyword overlap and bids against your own account in the auction, driving up CPCs unnecessarily. If you're launching a new campaign structure, it's safer to use Google's built in Custom Experiments feature or apply strict ad schedule/location segmentation to split traffic cleanly while the new setup learns.

I’d avoid running duplicate campaigns longer than necessary. A short overlap can help prevent downtime, but watch for keyword overlap and budget competition; once the new campaigns have enough data and stable performance, pause the old ones.

i think yeah it’s okay to run both for a short time and use same keywords may affect traffic or CPC a little but once the new campaigns are stable, pause the old ones because this usually won’t restart learning.

Yes, but it’s generally risky: duplicate campaigns can compete against each other and inflate costs.
Better to avoid overlap and let the new campaign complete its learning phase with controlled budget changes.
