AI voice killing YouTube Shorts reach?

Has anyone noticed YouTube not pushing Shorts that use AI voiceovers?


I’ve tested this multiple times. The exact same Short with an AI voice gets almost no views, but when I upload the same video again with random background music instead of the AI voice, it gets normal reach.


What’s confusing is that the AI voice version performs great on TikTok and Facebook, so the content itself isn’t the issue.


Could YouTube be detecting robotic AI voices, or is there something else going on? Also, is there any good way to make AI voices sound more natural or human?

Make it sound more real. Use natural breathing and stops and things like that. Not one continous motion of speed. Things like that help.

noticed similar trends with certain ai voiceovers but i believe it is more related to the retention rate than the voice itself. if they bail out early on due to the unnatural sound utube simply stops testing the voiceover.
 
It seems the AI voice has become saturated, affecting the video quality. I think you should record your own voice and then edit it; it will look much better.
 
I think YouTube cares more about viewer response than the voice itself. If people skip quickly, the video may stop getting pushed.

100% agree. YT doesn't like reused AI content. It all depends on watch time. ElevenLabs is the best AI voice right now, in my opinion. Early attention / swiping away rate in the first 1-3 seconds on shorts is very important.
 
bullshit...everyday tens of videos with AI voice are getting millions of views
thousands of videos did the same recently
if your videos are getting no views, there are other reasons (shadowbanned account, low quality videos, etc)

Youtube might not be directly blocking AI voices, but audience retention is probably the bigger factor. If the voice sounds too robotic people leave faster and the algorithm reacts to that.
 
If you want to use Ai voice in your shorts then you have to chose that one which feels less robotic, because audience don't want to listen robotic voice. There are many Ai tools which can be used for voice generation choose which one who's characters provides real feel not too much robotic. The best suggestion is hire a cheep assistant for real voice over. It will help you to grow your shorts.
 
Personally I think people are a bit too quick to blame the AI voice.

A lot of the time it's not even the voice, it's how the text is written. Most TTS is reading something that was written to be read, not spoken. Throw in a few pauses, break the sentences up a bit, don't make everything one long paragraph... same voice suddenly sounds way more natural.

If people stick around and don't swipe, I doubt YouTube really cares where the voice came from.
 
In my opinion, using an AI-generated voice makes videos less engaging for viewers. A real human voice is generally much more effective at holding your audience's attention and improving watch time.
 
From what I’m being recommended it doesn’t seem to be getting suppressed at all. I’m pretty sure it’s mainly focused on video content.
 
In my experience, simply incorporating a few brief pauses and speaking with a natural rhythm instantly makes the story come alive and become far more engaging.

I have found a mix of success rates to be honest . i would say that it is not the voice itself but the retention rate if they swipes too quickly.
Using a more natural voice with little pauses and poor pacing has proven to be successful.
 
Personally, I don't think AI voices cause viewers to lose views; the key lies in the script! Just add pauses, write in a conversational style instead of a spoken word. Once you captivate viewers and keep them engaged until the very end, YouTube will automatically distribute the video.
 
I think it is more likely that YouTube looks at the overall viewer response rather than just whether the voice is AI If the voice sounds natural and keeps people watching I do not think using AI alone should limit the reach
