Is linkedin becoming more about personal branding than professional networking ?

Personal experiences get way more likes and comments. But to be honest, those high-engagement posts rarely translate into actual sales or client inquiries for me. Highly technical posts might get 10 times fewer likes, but the people who do comment are usually high-value prospects

A few years ago, most people join linkedin for jobs, industry updates or professional discussion. But now my feed is filled with personal stories, life lessons and motivational posts. Some of them performs well but industry insights get less attention now due to these stories.
I think linkedin is now rewarding story telling more than professional knowledge.

For those who use linkedin regularly, have you seen more engagement from sharing your expertise or from sharing personal experiences ?
I’ve noticed the same. Personal stories get more likes, but real insights still attract the right audience.

Yes this shift is very real now, LinkedIn algorithm clearly favors content that keeps people reading and reacting personal stories do that better because they create emotion and relatability, But from a business side expertise still wins in the long run

It is been moving in that direction for some time now tbh. The personal stories and sob stories get all the traction, but when it comes to trust it is the hardcore expertise that get high paying clients via DMs.

LinkedIn now seems to have more of a preference for storytelling, and therefore, unless posts are interesting, purely informational content can be lost among other types of posts. A great combination is being an expert in the field and sharing ones experience and knowledge.

Storytelling may drive more likes and comments while useful professional knowledge trends to attract the right connections and opportunities.

It is this way because personal stories are more engaging than business topics and that's the reason you see it that way.

i have noticed that personal stories gain traction even more so when they tie into a professional takeaway.Pure industry takeaways are effective too but they do require a more compelling introduction nowadays.it seems like people engage more when the takeaway is backed by an experience.

Definitely personal experiences. People connect more with stories than dry industry posts. The best approach I’ve seen is combining both: share a real experience or lesson, then connect it back to your expertise.

yeah, LinkedIn definitely feels like a much more personality focused site now. IMHO, the best posts combine real-world experiences and value, rather than just motivational messages .
