Does reddit ghost your messages in private chats when you post a link?

It has happened about 5 times or more now where I will be chatting with someone else and they seem very interested in what what we are discussing and then as soon as I post a link like an email or a website url so we can continue discussion off reddit they ghost and don't respond again.

This isn't marketing either, just chats about different topics and I suggest it is easier to discuss more on a different platform.

It seems weird they suddenly ghost when the link is posted which makes me wonder if it is some reddit automoderation and they never even get the message.

stay away from links, reddit is really sensitive to them and DMing a bunch of people can easily get your account banned, just mention your website name instead of posting the link unless you are promoting someone else through an affiliate link

Well the last time I didn't post the actual link and just did email in the form like: name [at] blah [dot] com.

Also, as I mentioned in the OP, I am not doing mass anything, just irregularly having 1 to 1 chat convos.

My plan is to organically build some kind of community around an interest topic but not getting out of the gate even lol.
 
From my experience, Reddit doesn’t automatically ghost every private message with a link. However, links can trigger additional filtering depending on the account’s history and trust level. I’ve seen it vary from account to account.

your service stopped workinng months ago. don't promote it anymore because people are losing money with you

Yes I also never click on links from strangers. You can get malware on your pc this way.

that’s probably a big part of it a lot of people instantly get suspicious when a conversation moves to an outside link.

If your account is new then it may happen.Reddits spam filters are very aggressive. So that's why you send your messages but doesn't appear to another end.
 
I just put the link in my bio and tell them to check my profile. Works better than sending links in DMs.
 
Before reading it as rejection, check whether the message arrived at all. Platforms filter hardest at the moment a conversation tries to leave them, and the sender sees a normal sent message either way. We watch the same class of failure on Telegram, where a message to someone who never approved the chat sits in a request folder while the sender's screen says delivered.

Cheap test, and it costs you nothing: keep the thread alive without the link and ask them to confirm they got your last message. If they answer normally, the link vanished, not their interest.

If that turns out to be it, stop sending the address. Let them ask where to find you and give a name they can search instead of something clickable. Interest that survives one extra step tends to be better interest anyway.

Your own detail settles this better than either theory in the thread. You said it happened again when you obfuscated the address as name at blah dot com, and an automated filter keying on URLs would not catch that string, whereas a human reading it absolutely would. So the evidence points at people rather than at Reddit. Link filtering in chat is real for accounts without much history, but it usually shows up as your message never appearing on their side at all rather than as a reply that stops, and you can test which one you are hitting by asking a friend to read the thread from their account. For what it is worth the behaviour you are describing is the normal reaction to a conversation that suddenly wants to move off platform, which reads as a setup to most people even when it is not, so the fix is probably to keep the conversation on Reddit until they suggest moving rather than being the one who proposes it.
 
If your Reddit account gets reported repeatedly, it may be suspended or lose the ability to send messages.

I haven’t seen this happening on TG, messages either get delivered or the person trying to send gets an error that they can only send messages to mutual contacts - do you have an example of this happening?
