Instagram just dropped a brand-new app — Edits, and from early impressions, it could be a real CapCut alternative for Reels creators. The app is already available on the App Store, and most importantly — syncs directly with your Instagram account. You can even check your Reels stats while editing

The interface is minimalist but includes all the essential tools. Right now, it feels like something between CapCut and Instagram’s built-in editor — but in a separate, dedicated app.
  • Is it actually convenient to use?
  • Are there any key features missing compared to CapCut?
  • Would you consider switching?
Or is this just another editing app that'll fade in a month?

Also curious — since Meta loves tightly integrated apps, could this affect how content gets pushed in the algorithm?

That’s interesting, I’ve barely used CapCut but have been doing personal branding for my family business so might compare them for TikTok and IG reels
 
thanks for the share i will need to check this out. interesting that they launched a seprate app for it and did not just revamp their built in editor.

Yes, I think it can help a bit with the algo.

Also, I saw they intent of launching an app called Reels that would be a competitor to TikTok.
 
It is not comparable to capcut at all from an editing perspective.

I have done a few hundred posts, posting from Edits and the algorithm is favoring content from there.

We still do editing in CapCut and then add text via Edits.

I'd definitely consider giving it a shot, but I'll need to play around with it more to see how it compares
 
Instagram did something similar with Reels (TikTok). That being said, the capcut was somewhat expected
 
This is pretty recent stuff, yeah. Rather interesting as well. I see Meta fully intends to keep users inside it's own crafted ecosystem.
Seems to have what you would want from an in-house app with all the sync and such features added on but quite a few other apps already have that too so would be strange if IG Edits didn't have it.
If it gets even halfway close to CapCut's AI tools and template variety, I could see casual creators switching for convenience alone. But hardcore editors? Probably not unless Meta goes all-in with features. On that note, it's highly likely the content that goes through the app gets some level of algo bias, you sort of just expect it to. That and I wouldn't put it past Meta to do that. Has a history of rewarding users who adopt their tools and features early so definitely worth testing out some content for comparison. Quite a lot about it remains to be seen, keen to try it out of course.
 
I tried out Meta’s new Edits app for Instagram, and it’s really good. It’s similar to CapCut but made specifically for Instagram. I have not tried everything yet, but it seems like a good tool for quick video edits. Has anyone else tried it?
 
Meta always pushes its own stuff. Content made with Edits will likely get preferential treatment in the algorithm because it keeps users in their ecosystem. For quick Reels, it might be decent, but I doubt it offers the power CapCut does. It's more about Meta trying to own the entire content pipeline than being a superior editor. Don't see it fully replacing CapCut unless it evolves significantly.
 
It seems interesting, but only time will tell if this will stick. If Meta integrates it well and gives it a boost in the algorithm, it could become a solid competitor to CapCut! Wouldn’t be surprised if they prioritize content from their own apps.

iam new to ig , i am curious to know wat type of editor is suitable for ig right now in 2026 august. if any one there by chance help me out is that capcut or any other new thing?
 
Since it syncs directly with Instagram, Meta will likely favor content edited through it in their algorithm, at least at the beginning to promote the app. Definitely worth testing for Reels.

Yes.I think it is smooth for normal editing.It has some similarity with capcut but it is nice.
