Regarding the strategy of keeping only one backlink (OBL=1) on a PBN homepage to maximize the site's "link juice"—is this method still highly effective in 2026?
At the same time, for a moderately competitive niche (such as Apple product accessories), are 30 self-built PBN sites sufficient to push keyword rankings into the top 5 spots on Google's first page?

OBL=1 alone doesn't make much difference today. Apple accessories is competitive, 30 PBNs might give you a short-term boost, but it's not enough to consistently hold top 5 against established. sites with real authority.

In theory it should.

However, I admit it’s been a while since I’ve done less then 3 OBL.

30 strong units might hold the power to do that.
But the other website aspects much be top notch.

, but the old idea of getting any type of backlink is not working like before. Relevance is more important now.

From my point of view, too much importance is given to the statistics from the OBLs. In my case, I would try to focus more on making sure that each PBN look gud and has content and real link.

30 PBN sites might help in some cases, but there is no fixed number that guarantees top 5 rankings. Competition and content quality still play a big role.

In my experience having just one outbound link on a homepage isn't a magic advantage anymore. The overall quality relevance and trust of the network matter far more and I wouldn't expect a fixed number of sites alone to consistently reach the top rankings in a competitive niche

A PBN homepage link with OBL 1 is effective since homepage pages carry the most internal link equity, and with OBL as low as 1, that full authority passes to just one link instead of getting diluted. That said, effectiveness also depends on the domain's overall quality (age, real backlink history, indexation status, niche relevance), not just the OBL count. In short: low OBL + a strong, clean domain = a powerful link.

A homepage with just one OBL can still work, but it's far from a guaranteed ranking advantage in 2026 honestly. Google's gotten a lot better at evaluating overall site quality and link patterns. As for 30 PBNs, it really depends on their quality and what you're up against. Strong, relevant sites will always outperform a bigger pile of weak ones. :)

It can still work but obl 1 alone isn't enough anymore quality relevance & clean setup matter more & 30 pbn's will only move rankings if they are strong otherwise, they will likely have little to no effect

From what I have seen, keeping one homepage link alone does not guarantee better results. Even with 30 PBN sites, rankings depend on content quality, competition, relevance, and natural backlinks. No fixed number can guarantee a top five ranking.

I prefer 30 PBN is better than 1 OBL but PBN are short term game only.

For 30 PBNs in something like Apple accessories I’d say 30 alone doesn’t guarantee Top 5.

If the sites are genuinely strong, relevant, indexed and backed by a solid on-page or content setup, they can definitely move the needle. But against stronger competitors, you may need additional authority and a more diversified link profile.

I’d judge the required number by the SERP competition and backlink gap not by a fixed PBN count.

OBL=1 was always more of a hygiene metric than a ranking lever - Google doesn't judge a page by its outbound link count in isolation, and a homepage with one lonely link often looks MORE like a PBN, not less. What actually matters for a network targeting something like Apple accessories is relevance and trust diversity: domains with topical history in consumer tech, real traffic history, and content that fits the niche rather than generic filler. On the 30-sites question - that's roughly where you can start to see movement in a mid-competition niche, but it's rarely enough alone. Established retailers in that space have brand strength and on-page authority that no amount of PBN links fully replaces, so I'd pair the network with niche edits or guest posts on real tech blogs, and put most of the effort into the money page itself. Thirty mediocre properties will underperform ten genuinely strong ones every single time.
In other words, having only a single backlink (OBL=1) on the homepage pointing to a "money site" in 2026 might actually look unsafe.
What if I place one backlink to the money site and another to an authoritative site on the homepage—making the total OBL=2? Is that safe?
At the same time, would this maximize the link juice from the PBN?
