i recently watched it and it was pretty good and very unique kind of horror genre movie and the dining table scene was crazyI thought it was pretty amazing tbh so naturally the first thing I did after watching it was download as many memes from Reddit as possible.
Anyway have you seen it?

It's a good movie except for the climax. Moreover, I don't like metaphors and social commentary in horror films. I enjoy traditional Stephen King style horror. It's okay to have something that draws parallels like "Get Out," but if the film asks you to decode something to get jump scares, I'd rather avoid it.

I don't understand what you mean here. I can't think of a film where I've had to decode something to be jump scared. Jump scares are just instant, easy events (and usually lazy scare tactics). Unless I'm missing something?

Yellow rooms represent suppressed emotions like trauma & guilt. The continuous resentment, substance abuse, refusal to face problems causes people to create mental loops of self-destruction that's expressed through anger, frustration, and fury. Clark created his own demons that ruined his relationship. Instead of resolving the issues, he starts feeling that he is being free.
Mary has childhood trauma. She still becomes a psychiatrist (or psychologist - I'm always confused between the two). Instead of resolving her own problems, she tries to help others which eventually traps her in yellow rooms.
When you look at some details, that's either scary or traumatic. Some movies just scare us while some others give us lifelong trauma. There are some details like how Pi Patel in "Life of Pi" eats the dead body of his own mother for survival. Even if they are not as scary as jump scares, they are unsettling. Some directors show them directly while a few others hide them behind metaphors. It's scary to imagine what lies behind the door when you try to figure out these metaphors.

Jump scare just means a sudden surprise that scares us. Jump scares are usually audio-visual content but I'm saying that these metaphors are equally effective to creep me out. You can call it jump scare due to new information instead of sudden movement or loud noise. It may not be scary to others who enjoy slashers and gory films though.
I enjoy old-school horror like Rosemary's Baby (1968), The Exorcist (1973), etc. where horror is mostly atmospheric. So, I get same chills like watching a jump scare when I found out something shocking - either onscreen or offscreen. Hereditary (2018), The Witch (2015) are the recent one where nothing dramatic happens onscreen but the context gives me chills in the climax.
