You Can Now Connect Your Social Media Accounts To Google Search Console

This looks less like a traffic feature and more like entity consolidation to me.

For years we have been telling Google which social profiles belong to a brand through same as markup and hoping it connects the dots. This is Google asking you to just confirm it directly.

@SirTop to your question, I would expect them to sit as separate properties for now. But separate in the interface doesn't necessarily mean separate in how Google models the entity behind them.

The part I would watch is knowledge panels. If this starts feeding profile links into panels for brands that don't have one yet, that's worth more than any click data GSC shows you.

Interesting update. if google starts using more social signals for visibility and branding, having those accounts connected could become quite valuable.

Thanks for sharing more insight on that... you somehow got me a bit more enthusiastic about it now : D

Ha, glad it helped. I will probably connect mine this week and see what the data looks like.

If anything odd shows up on the panel side I will drop it back in here.

I have a YouTube channel that I use to support one of my websites. It has 200 videos, and it links back to my website. When I choose "Add Property" in GSC, the "Select a YouTube Channel" dialog says:

"The list only shows YouTube channels that are linked to [my GSC email]"

My YouTube channel isn't linked to the gmail account I use with GSC. So I guess I'm out of luck?

Login to GSC on the same YouTube accounts email, then link your YouTube to that GSC.

The new update I saw on my sesrch console allows one to link their Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and/or Tiktok accounts.

this would probably be a good idea for those who have a presence on multiplle social media sites as well as their own websites. in the future search will increasingly be about finding information that is tied up with a brand identity rather than being purely linked to the website itsellf. If google can figure out the conection between the two it would make sense for users to find more trustworthy sources.

You're right. I didn't understand correctly. I was logged into my "main" GSC account that has several website properties. I wanted to add the YouTube channel there because in my mind I associate the YouTube channel with one of my websites. But they aren't really "connected" in any way - they're on separate GSC accounts. Dumb on my part. I logged into GSC using the email for the YouTube account and I could add the YouTube property there. Thanks.

if google is heading in the direction of better social profile integration this is justified since consumers usually evaluate a brand not only by its website but also by its overall online reputatiion. such integration would promote more trust buildding nd faciliitate discovery. the most exciting thing is to see whether these connections will be merely profile based or will affect googles authoritty model.

Thanks for heads-up, worthy of linking official profiles. Small update but it could make brand visibility.

I hadnt noticed this update yet i am curious whether anyone has already seen a measurable impact after linking their social accounts has anyone noticed any changes in search visibility or referral traffic so far?
