What's working for Instagram growth in 2026?

For me, consistent engagement has made the biggest difference. Reels help with reach, but replying to comments, interacting with similar accounts, and posting consistently seem to build much steadier growth over time than relying on viral posts alone.

In terms of content, I would think about each as a different purpose: Reels for discovery, carousels for saves/shares, and Stories/DMs for retaining the audience you already earned. Just saying 'be consistent' misses it.

I would run a weekly testing loop and change one variable at a time: hook, topic, length, visual format, or CTA.

I should also note that tbh, although IG has changed, it remains the same: for reels, which is primary for discovery, WATCH TIME is the golden nugget. Always will be.

Hi everyone,

It feels like Instagram is constantly changing, and strategies that worked a year ago don't always seem to have the same impact today.

I'm curious to hear what people are finding most effective lately. Are you seeing better results with:

Reels
Carousel posts
Stories
Collaborations
Consistent posting
Community engagement

I'm more interested in long-term, sustainable growth than quick spikes. What's one strategy or habit that has consistently helped you grow your account or improve engagement?

Looking forward to hearing everyone's experiences and learning from the community!
One thing that has surprised me with how well it works is doing series of content as opposed to every inidividual post being an isolated upload. Knowing there will be a Part 2 or even following the particular pattern or theme every week encourages people to engages and come back. It also makes content creation easier and turns the habit into the account as opposed to one viral reel.
