Hey
how many hashtags I should use for posting, for the best engagement? too much, it will look like spammy, too less, you have a less reach, so what's the best balance?
Thanks

As far as I remember, Instagram itself said about a year ago that hashtags do not work the way they used to, and I think they limited them to five. You can test it, but it feels like people do not really browse hashtags anymore. And if you do use them, it is probably better to choose specific, targeted hashtags instead of broad ones.

I use 3.

Hashtags basically point the algorithm to the right user cluster.

Although hashtags are becoming a bit useless because the AI uses frame by frame analysis to determine who to show it too.

Hashtags are basically like GPS.

After that it's mostly watch rate %.

Thanks for reply. So the best choice is stick with max 5 hashtags yes? otherwise, post will be look, like spammy yes?
It is not that it would look exactly spammy. It would just feel a bit strange in 2026 to see a huge block of hashtags, and I think that could put people off even more. So yes, I would probably use no more than five. Also, do not choose very popular hashtags with millions of posts, because your post will just get buried there. It is better to use more specific, targeted hashtags based on what your post is actually about. At least, that is what makes sense to me.

I use paid ads on instagram. Besides that, you need a consistent posting plan. Posting reels regularly usually gives me much better results. I think the main thing is consistency. Test different openings, topics, and video styles, then keep using the ones that get more views, saves, and shares. It also helps to reply to comments and make content for a specific audience instead of trying to reach everyone. There is no single trick that suddenly brings followers, it is usually a mix of regular posting, testing, and paid promotion.

Instagram’s is around 5 to 10 relevant ones the days of stuffing 30 are basically over. TikTok works fine with 3 to 5 niche relevant tags.

hashtags are trending pages to reachout to active audiences interest in certain niche post using replica niche keyword to target pages for engagement through search traffics.

I usually just use a few relevant ones. Doesn't seem like using a ton of hashtags makes much difference anymore.

There is no single number that applies to all, each social network has its own algorithm for optimal distribution without being flagged as spam. Ideally, it should be 3-5.

in my opinion the problem that most indiviiduals r making is focusing on using hashtags according to their popularitty. while it will bring u views there are chances of getting lost among other million posts. this is the reason y i tend to use a combination of niche nd audience rellated hashtags.

There is no perfect number of hashtags anymore. I would concentrate on using some really good hashtags relevant to the topic and the audience rather than popular hashtags just because. It is better to use good content indicators such as likes, saves, and watch time.

In my opinion, 3–5 hashtags are usually enough for most videos. Prioritize hashtags that accurately describe the video's content or topic. Or you can add 1–2 hashtags related to the niche you're targeting. Only use trending hashtags when they are truly relevant to the video.

these day, hashtags have more to do with relevancy rather than number. I prefer to keep them few in number nd relevant to the niche, but pay more attention to the hook, watch time, save, nd share becuz these metrics determine visibility.

Instagram literally capped it at 5 hashtags platform-wide as of Dec 2025, so "how many should I use" is kinda moot now - the real answer is 3 - 5 hyper-niche tags, n honestly hashtags stopped bein a reach tool entirely, they're purely categorization/search metadata now, so stop optimizin ur hashtag count n go optimize yer caption + on-screen text instead, that's where discoverability actually lives in 2026

3 to 5 highly relevant hashtags is the sweet spot on most platforms enough to reach the right audience without looking desperate. Quality and relevance matter far more than quantity; one perfectly targeted hashtag beats ten generic ones every time.

Thanks for your replies.
I will try 3-5 hashtag combination on carousel posts.

I usually use 3 to 5 relevant hashtags instead of adding too many. Choose hashtags that match your content and audience. Good content and regular posting usually have a bigger impact than hashtag count.
