Do Hidden Backlinks Still Help with SEO in 2026?

Hey BHW Members,

I've been working on a few websites and keep seeing mixed opinions about hidden backlinks some people say they still help with rankings while others say they dont make much difference anymore

Has anyone tested them recently? i am only interested in real experiences. Did you notice any impact on SEO or SERPs?

Hidden links are basically the SEO equivalent of hiding vegetables in a kid's dinner — Google figured out that trick a long time ago. Anything stuffed in display:none or 1px text tends to get ignored at best and side-eyed at worst, so the effort rarely pays off versus a link that's actually visible. Are you thinking hidden as in CSS-hidden on your own pages, or hidden as in buried on someone else's site?
 
I've seen mixed opinions as well from what I've observed it is difficult to attribute ranking changes to hidden backlinks alone because many seo factors work together Id be interested in seeing recent case studies or controlled tests real data is always more useful than assumptions or isolated experiences
 
tested this a while back out of curiosity on a couple test sites, hidden links (css display none, white text n stuff) basically did nothing, if anything felt riskier since google can obviously read the html regardless of wat renders visually to users. from wat ive seen the effort is better spent on links that r actually visible n contextual, even a small visible link seems to carry more weight than a big batch of hidden ones based on wat ive tracked. agree tho real controlled data is hard to come by since most ppl testing this arent isolating it as the only variable
 
hidden backlinks are not something I would rely on in 2026. Even if they provide a temporary boost, they're a risky signal and far less effective than relevant contextual links from trusted pages. Most long-term gains I have seen come from quality content, internal linking, brand mentions, and authoritative backlinks rather than hidden link tactics.
 
I did not have much success with hidden backlinks recently. the websites that improved the most were the onse with string content and natural link.

i tried out both of them some time ago nd to be honest there was no consistent long term advantage that they provided me. maybe they can providee uh with a short term effect but uh have to be careful using them. in my opinion focusing on improving the content nd getting backliinks is far more effective.

Although hidden backlinks could cause noise in small experiment, they are difficult to verify and do not last very long. I prefer putting effort into contextual links that provide value in their context.
 
From what I tested, hidden backlinks are not worth using in 2026. I never saw any long-term ranking improvement from them. Good content, relevant backlinks, and proper internal linking gave much better and safer results in search rankings.
 
i havent seen hidden backlinks provide any consistent advantage lately if they work at all the benefit seems far less reliable than earning visible relevant links.
 
In my case normal backlinks from related websites worked better. Hidden links didnt give much difference in SERPs.
 
In my experience, hidden backlinks aren't worth relying on. Search engines are much better at detecting manipulative tactics now, and any short-term gains can come with long-term risks. I'd focus on relevant, visible, high-quality links instead.
 
Hidden backlinks can still give a small, short term boost if placed smartly on indexed pages but the impact is inconsistent & fat weaker than visible contextual links
 
I am curious about this too I've seen people mention hidden backlinks but i have not tried them myself I.d rather hear from members who have tested them recently it would be interesting to know whether they still make any real difference or if other link building methods are a better choice now
 
Tested them before, but honestly didnt see any stable results. Quality backlinks and relevant content still work much better in the long run.

To be honest, I didn't see any major ranking boost from hidden backlinks alone.

They might have a small effect in some cases, but I wouldn't rely on them. Good quality contextual backlinks have given me much better and more consistent results.
 
I would not rely on hidden backlinks in 2026. Search engines have become much better at detecting unnatural link patterns, and even if a hidden link works for a while, it is not something I would build a long term strategy around.
