Automated link blasts are an example of a technique which did not become instantly obsolete but un predictable. Previously, the advantage lay mainly in sheer no and speed of execution, but now the identical footprint will simply be ignored and face no consequeinces. This makes it difficult to test the techniques since you might be wasting effort making links that work but deliver little or no value.

the biggest one is mass spam link building. Years ago, blasting thousands of forum profiles, blog comments, and directory submissions could move rankings surprisingly fast. Today, most of those links are ignored or carry very little value.

One strategy that has become increasingly less important is making many very similar pages for slight variations on keywords. While this used to be quite successfull in attracting traffic, now it is likely to have the effect of the pages competing against each other or being completely dis regarded. For me, consolidiating the overlapping material into a single page has worked out much better.

Link wheels were a tactic for boosting rankings with webs of interconnected sites. Back then it was easier to get away with it, but modern search engines do a lot more checking, and they notice artificial link patterns. These days, ranking strength leans more on relevance and content quality, plus genuine, earned backlinks rather than big, large-scale link wheel schemes.

Keyword stuffing is the biggest example. It used to help, but now search engines prioritize natural, helpful content. Low-quality link farms are another tactic that's lost most of its value and can even lead to penalties.
