Reels Are Taking Over

So true reels are definitely getting the main push right now

Hard to argue with that. Every time I think photos are back, a Reel goes 10x further :D

Seems like the only thing Instagram actually wants the user base to do is push out reels now. You can post photo posts and people will still engage with them but honestly, reels are pulling in the most amount of reach for me.
this observation is spot on since Instagram's algorithm heavily favors Reels to compete with TikTok and YouTube Shorts for user retention, though static photo posts remain essential for nurturing deep audience engagement and driving conversions with loyal followers.

This is what i have seen as well however, I do not think that reels make all the other types of content obsolete by default. In my experience, reels help get people onto the page in the 1st place, while carousels and photo posts help get the saves and profile visits and trust.

in my opinion the main reason y instagram focuses more on reels than on photos is that it is much easier to suggest those videos to people who are not following u. Reels are perfect for discovering new accounts but u should not ignore other options. Carousels nd photos can help u generate saves, shares nd engage the auddience that u already have.

Reels are still getting the strongest organic reach, while photo posts seem to work better for engaging existing followers than attracting new ones.

yes, you are right. Reels get most of the audience while most of the photos are skipped by the people or did not get viral

The most suitable approach, in my opinion, is to prioritize power by converting content from high-engagement posts into short slideshow reels with trending music to take advantage of the optimization algorithm.

This isn't news at all, bro. Insta prioritizing reels for about 4 years already

Reels are definitely the strongest discovery tool right now, but I wouldn't ignore carousels. Reels bring new eyeballs, while carousels often get more saves, shares, and deeper engagement. The best results usually come from using both instead of relying on a single format.

Instagram seems to reward content that keeps people on the platform longer, and short-form video does that better than static images. That's why many creators see higher reach from Reels even when their photo posts get solid engagement.
