I’m about to launch an eBay Business account and would love to get your advice and insights. Here are a few areas I’m particularly curious about:

2. Price competitively, ALWAYS!
3. Cheap, inexpensive items. Or you can check trendy products on Tik-Tok. They do well on eBay.
4. Don't rush your sales, take it slow.
5. Optimization. Title, images, price, description.
 
List in small increments, clearly and simply. Concentrate on maintaining a high rating on eBay.
 
One thing I’d add @King1452, don’t guess products from “trending” lists too much... use Terapeak and sold listings first. If 20 people are selling it but only 2 sold last week, skip it. Also make sure your first 20-30 orders are boring and easy, like small items with low return risk, because early defects hurt way more than people think. I usually price a little under the main sellers at start, not cheapest, just enough to get some movement and feedback. After that you can test promoted listings at 2-4%, but fix title/photos first or you’re just paying for bad traffic.
 
one thing people overlook is listing consistency. ebay algorithm loves active stores... if you have 30 items to list, don't dump them all on day one. list 3 or 4 a day instead. it triggers the search engine to keep giving you impressions. also, if you can stomach the risk, turn on free 30 day returns at the start. ebay boosts listings with free returns crazy high. you can always change it later once you have some solid feedback and search history.
 
Opening a business account on ebay is a good idea if you want to sell seriously, the difference from a personal account is that it gives you tools to sell in larger volumes and keep your finances separate, the process is quite simple: you register as a business, enter your tax information, and verify your identity and bank account, this can take a few days, so be patient.

Once approved, you can set up your store, ebay has different monthly subscription levels, to start, the most basic plan is usually sufficient if you're not going to list huge quantities, it gives you a custom address and reduces your fees somewhat, choose a store name that's easy to remember and related to what you sell, things to keep in mind, you can have multiple accounts, but each one must have a different email address and comply with the rules. there are also restricted products, so carefully review what you can sell, and as a business, you have legal obligations such as providing warranties and having clear return policies, it's more work than a personal account, but if you do it right, it opens many doors.
 
yeah definitely buy a few cheap items first just to get your feedback score off zero. people are paranoid buying from brand new accounts even if its a business one. also, don't sleep on item specifics. fill out every single one of them even if they seem useless. ebays algorithm is obsessed with structured data now and it gives you a massive boost over sellers who just dump keywords in the title and leave the rest blank. if you do those two things you'll skip a lot of the early struggle.
 
one thing to watch out for is the honeymoon period. ebay usually gives brand new accounts a little search boost in the first week or two to see how buyers react. if your photos are crap or your price is too high and you don't convert those early impressions, the algorithm will bury you and it's super hard to claw your way back. also... seriously watch out for VeRO. don't list any big brand name stuff starting out even if you got it cheap. one trademark strike on a fresh business account can get you restricted before you even get going. stick to generic or unbranded stuff until you have some solid history.

Good stuff in here already. One thing nobody touched... your handling time actually feeds into placement more than people expect. If you set 1 day handling and actually ship same or next day, ebay quietly pushes you above sellers doing 3+ days on identical items. Don't promise 1 day if you can't hit it though, one late scan and the boost is gone.

Also the Send Offers to Watchers tool is free money early on. People watch but don't pull the trigger, drop them 5-10% off and a chunk of them convert. Way cheaper than promoted listings when your budget is tight.

And +1 to what @Nexora550 said about VeRO. seen fresh accounts get nuked over one brand logo in a photo, not even a fake item, just a real branded thing they didn't have paperwork for. stick to generic till you got history behind you.
