Many online service ideas fail because the creator spends too much time building before confirming that anyone needs the service.

A simpler validation process can reduce that risk.
First, define the exact problem. “Businesses need marketing” is too broad. A more useful description would identify a specific type of customer, a recurring problem, and the expected result.

Second, review how people currently solve the problem. Existing solutions are not always a bad sign. They may confirm that customers are willing to spend money.

Third, create the smallest version of the service that can produce a meaningful outcome. This does not mean delivering poor quality. It means avoiding unnecessary features before the core process is proven.

Fourth, calculate the real delivery cost. Time, tools, revisions, customer support, and refunds should all be considered.

Finally, collect feedback about the outcome rather than asking whether the idea “sounds good.” People may praise an idea without being willing to purchase it.

What validation methods have helped you avoid investing too much time in an unproven online service?

regarding collecting feedback what i like to do is to not just ask if they would use it or if they like the idea. what i do is i really ask all the pain points they have and ask how urgent those are. if they have at least 2 real pain points and they want it to get solved asap (within 6 months tops), then it's a green light. i've made this mistake before and not making it again..

talking to potential customers early is probably the best validation method real feedback and actual payments tell you more than opinions.

Understanding customer preferences and requirements is a good approach before launching campaigns. People always have prototype products to gather customer feedback, which helps them improve their strategies and develop larger-scale plans.
