They still have some value, but not like before. I see them more as support links rather than something that will move rankings on their own. If they’re relevant and placed naturally, they can help a bit. But I wouldn’t rely on them heavily, better to mix with other types of links.

Forum links are useful when they send real visitors or add context to a discussion. Treat the link as optimal, um, and the answer as the main value; otherwise it quickly looks like promotion.

Forum backlinks still have a place, but the game's changed a lot. Most forum profile links or signature links get nofollowed or stripped of value now Google's been pretty good at discounting those since way before 2026. Where I still see them work is contextual forum replies (like this one) on relevant, active communities where a real human would naturally drop a link think niche forums, not spam-farmed ones.

Forum backlinks will indeed remain valuable in 2026 if they are created through the right forums and real conversations. Forum backlinks work well in building referral traffic and brand visibility apart from link juice.

Spamming forum links for PageRank is dead. Google ignores them completely. The only value today is driving real referral traffic by dropping helpful answers in active communities like Reddit.
