Meta Ads conversions don’t match your store data? Here’s what I would check

Meta Ads Manager, GA4, and the store backend often report different conversion numbers.
I wouldn’t expect them to match perfectly because they use different tracking and attribution methods. However, if the gap is unusually large, here are the first things I would check.

First, compare the time zones, date ranges, and attribution windows.
Then test the purchase event. Make sure it fires after a completed order and doesn’t fire again when the confirmation page is refreshed.

If both Pixel and Conversions API are active, check whether event deduplication is working correctly. Missing or inconsistent event IDs may cause duplicate conversions.

It’s also worth checking UTMs, redirects, checkout domains, consent settings, and recent website changes. These can create tracking gaps without affecting campaign delivery.

For confirmed orders and revenue, I would use the store backend as the main reference. Meta and GA4 are still useful for understanding attribution and campaign performance, but the numbers will not always match exactly.

What do you usually check first when the conversion gap becomes unusually large?

I usually start with the basics like attribution windows and event tracking.
Most of the time the issue is a small tracking mismatch rather than the actual campaign performance.

I’d also check recent site updates or checkout changes since small technical changes can affect tracking without being obvious.

Maestrooo, agreed. That distinction is important because a tracking mismatch can easily be mistaken for a campaign problem. I’d compare the confirmed backend orders first before making changes to the campaign.

jcao figo, good point. Recent website, app, theme, or checkout changes are easy to overlook. Checking when the gap started against the site update history can usually help narrow down the cause.

Your sharing is very helpful, I will try to check it out. Thank you!

You're welcome! I'll keep updating my posts. Let's be friends.

yeah i wouldn't put a purchased account on the same setup as a personal one tbh. bigger worry for me is ownership, older accounts can get reclaimed way later than people think. for a page/group i'd just use an account i actually control and add business access properly instead
