Ask the visitor to find something hidden in the page content, forcing him to read it and spend time in the page, in order to win a prize (a coupon, sth to download, etc).
You could even ask them to find several hints spread across the site so they have to visit multiple pages which is a very good signal for google.
Make the prize related to your niche, enticing people to participate.
Thoughts?

Eventually, they'll know you're just trying to trick them into staying longer.
 
It can work as an engagement tactic if it's genuinely fun and relevant to your audience. But if the only goal is increasing time-on-site for SEO, people will notice and it may hurt trust. I'd use it as a bonus experience, not as a ranking strategy. Real engagement beats forced engagement every time.
 
Use creative images like infographics and videos can help as well.
 
Do not block the main content or force participation to read the article. Hide something related to your niche (e.g., a hidden taco icon on a food blog).
 
Add related articles, interactive elements, and internal links to encourage visitors to explore more pages.
 
it is a creative idea for improving engagement. i would just make sure it feels natural and adds value for users rather than keeping them on the page just for the sake of longer time on site.
 
The idea is cool and might work in some niches, but all in all, if the content isn't good or engaging enough, it'll be hard to make people stay longer
 
I like the idea as long as it feels natural if it fits the content and gives visitors a reason to explore the site it can make the experience more enjoyable focus should be on adding value rather than just increasing time on the page.

i believe that this is an innovative approach if done in a natural manner. an interresting activity would lead to increased engagement nd more browsing through different pages by users, however, the emphasis should be on providing something valuable nd not merely increasiing the time spent on the webssite.
 
It might make engagement, but not for the purpose of manipulating the dwell time signals. It might work, if the application is providing value and it is appropriate for the target audience, but manipulative engagements normally will not lead to improved ranking.
