If you had to choose just one, would you focus on helping local businesses rank in Google Maps, or build niche blogs targeting organic traffic?

I'd love to hear your experience. Which one has given you better long-term results, and why?

I would choose Google My Business profile optimization.

It’s pretty easy to pitch via personalized emails by attaching a heatmap, for example. You typically bill clients on a monthly retainer. Execution is straightforward: you can use AI to scrape tons of keywords, gauge ranking difficulty based on things like review counts in the top 3, and target the easiest keywords to get businesses ranked with low effort.

Both can work, but I'd choose the one that matches my skills. Consistency and understanding the audience usually matter more than the niche itself.

I would focus on helping local businesses rank in GM because the results are easier for clients to see and they are happy to pay for more calls and leads.:D
A well optimized business profile good reviews and consistent local seo can bring steady results for a long time. niche blogs are great too but google maps has given me faster results and more reliable monthly income from local clients.

As my experience local seo is much better than seo blogging because local seo brings more clients and faster result(income). But Seo takes much time to grow.

Helping businesses rank because I could get them on a subscription based model, meaning I would have a constant revenue stream.

I'd say first go with Local SEO and attain success there. While you generate a decent income, simultaneously do blogging, which should be your long term goal.

Both have their strengths local seo seems more consistent for long term work while niche blogs usually take longer to gain traction it really depends on your goals and how much time you are willing to invest

local seo pays faster no doubt, but everyone here is glossing over the churn. you grind to land a client and then one slow month or they decide seo is "too expensive" and the retainer just vanishes. with a blog nobody can fire you.

thats the real tradeoff imo. local = cashflow now but you never stop working, its rented income. a blog is slow and the first year kinda sucks but its an asset you own and can actually sell down the line.

ive run both. if money is tight right now go local, no question. but dont stay stuck on the client hamster wheel forever... funnel some of that retainer cash into building a blog on the side so you're not selling your time in 3 years. best case the blog even becomes your lead source for the local stuff.

Everyone's covering the cashflow-vs-asset angle well, so I'll add the boring truth: local is just easier to actually start. A plumber can see himself move up the Maps pack and gladly pays you, whereas a blog needs you to be right about a niche a year before it pays a cent. Blogging punishes impatience harder than any diet I've tried. If you're brand new, which do you think you'd stick with longer before the results kick in?
