So I'm watching my subreddit grow each day. I almos thave 50,000 members and i have a network, where it's all trickling around and I'm bouncing trafic/vistors.

I saw a person on IG with a nice t-shirt store the other day and it inspired me I must admit.

1) I thought, why am I not selling some merch?

2) Why do I not have my main brand on all platforms?

3) How will I get my users onto a safe space I control all together ? (my own app)

So i decided Im going to do all 3 of these.

I want to sell posts and all that but people are cheap and i dont see it as smart to ruin a SFW Subreddit doing 3-4 million visitors monthly.

People want to pay a few hundred for a post when I can probably earn that every few days selling t-shirts. Or who knows, maybe daily.

Has anybody done this already?

I hope by Tuesday/Wednesday of this week I'll be on my journey and I'll post updates to make this a case study.

Merch is a smarter long term play if people genuinely recognize the brand sponsored posts are easy money but they're hard to scale.

A community with strong engagement can create opportunities beyond direct advertising.

The key is finding ways to add value without making the audience feel like they are only being monetized.
 
quickly realize recognition compounds while sponsored posts reset every deal.

No, I don’t think your Tshirt selling plan will work. I highly doubt it because people don’t want advertisements on subreddits they want discussions, community building, and genuine interactions. Your best way to earn from a subreddit is through sponsored posts.
 
I'm getting everything structured now.

I will launch a JV that everyone can follow.

I'm going to stop selling my premium reddit accounts every quarter and stop selling my subreddits next month. Going to strictly limit how I sell my premium reddit accounts too.

Ive already found someone with asimiliar business model working I just need to expand to other platforms and not just depend on one, while making reddit my base.
 
That sounds like a much better long term plan. Building your own brand and getting people onto platforms you control is usually worth a lot more than relying on paid posts. Good luck with it! I'd be interested to see the updates.

Yeah, that's my view here right now. I can create several different revenue streams by funneling my audience. .

Shouldn't sell your subreddits if they have legitimate reach. Not unless it's WELL worth it.

I quit selling my subs after really seeing how big brands are coming to them.

This is only the beginning too. They will be more valuable in 2027.
 
You'll get caught selling posts, which is against Reddit TOS. All it takes is one petty/angry advertiser to out you and you'll lose your subreddits.

Also, a lot of people forget that Reddit owns the subreddits meaning that even if you create it, Reddit reserves the right to take it over (seriously). They can boot you out if they think you're running a business out of it, and install new moderators (which happened to a few big subreddits recently when they were caught selling ads in the sidebar).

Best bet is merch store that makes it clear you are the owner, transparency is the most important part.

This is interesting, I'll love to read how this turns out. But whatever you do, remember Reddit can decide to slam both account and subs with the hammer. So building anything around and on Reddit can be tricky.

I just spread out for this reason in part.

Diversified to all platforms and working on a website along with my own platform.

Totally aware though i dont think that will be a problem of mine.

But I want to maximize my energy and to do that, i must own as much of my brand and what users use,.
