Gray Hat SEO: How to reduce the risk of Google penalties and still getting results?

Bing ads are not better, since few years they implemented same "Scheme" as google ads, and even if you setup a campaign to run ONLY search traffic and only exact match keywords, bing ads will run your ads on "partner" websites and with whatever they want keywords on search, saying that "they are contextually the same" (HA-HA). If you got $80 mil. funds to spend on ads, you can be profitable with google ads and bing ads, because you are ready to pay $30 for a good click and will become profitable on subscription long-term retention...

for example otter ai (a venture funded company) gets profitable only after 14 months of user retention on the platform, that means they pay about $260-300 per customer, and you need many customers to go 14 months average retention, because some stay for 50 months other for 3 months...

And to be honest, the quality they offer is far behind what I would except, because I built a way better in terms of output quality, price and easy to use platform, but couldn't afford those prices per customer, so had to do SEO, lol.

And if you're ads budget is lik 10-20k, you will just get back your money in more than a year.

Still, for affiliate marketing for example facebook is not entirely dead yet, especially for PPL (insurance, medicare and etc...) offers.

Or what is very popular now is to run some paid tools that are offering "test period for 1-7 days for $0.49 and then they charge like 40-50$ per week/month", and they write it very small so they "have the right" to do that.

But this is offtopic, sorry. If going back to SEO: for affiliate offers I run now for fast indexing I just add comments/posts on popular platforms (like reddit, quora, pinterest, etc..) with URL, and if you have good accounts they are not being removed so you get both benefits: free traffic (and good quality) and good backlinks that will work for a while.

Consistent quality content delivers lasting results.
There are different shades of "quality content".....

What happens when you spend on ads in obscure niches, niches who are not conquered by big media news sites?

I'm pondering using gray-hat SEO on ny few new projects, but I want the risk of Google penalties to be as low as possible. For those having practical experience, which precautions, best practices, or risk-managing strategies have you used to achieve better rankings and still avoiding such algorithm updates? Please help me with your experiences and lessons.
To minimize penalty risks when utilizing gray hat SEO techniques, you should diversify your backlink profile, control link building velocity, and strictly prioritize high quality content and user experience.

I've been building websites for a very long time and have had many websites wiped out and banned by Google. :) Almost every few years, I somehow end up getting wiped out and have to restart almost from scratch, so I understand the pain.

I used to have blogs reaching around 80,000 organic visitors per day, then got wiped out. I tried starting around 30 new blogs, but none of them showed any growth. So I went back to the adult niche because, for now, these big companies still aren't as focused on it.

After testing many different niches, the adult niche is the only one that hasn't been affected as much by these corporations. I'm not saying the adult niche is easy, I had networks reaching 1.5 million visitors per day that also got wiped out, but overall, I think it's better to stay away from niches where there's too much money to be made. :)
It is because GEO and AIO policies mismatch the adult site idea and so generally AI doesn't crawl your site nor even Google Overview does.... So your clicks remain yours and not affected like those of other niches......

I'll see through it too....

ZOCX, you make me speechless that's far more evil I can think off.......Glen Allsopp wrote in his newsletter that hese big companies who ruling google worldwide got the right for their broad keywords form the court, means big G sends them the traffic first , then after the breadcrumbs big G sends to us.....

You are right my friend, not be in those niches where these big boys conquered niches /affiliate niches, be unique have your own services, products. Be the purple cow.

I going into a specific b2b audience have my own new category - there I be the niche. Many obscure niches exist you can make money 6 figures too......or coaching.....these big sites not doing coaching or are into obscure niches, obscure niches are ; Bonsai, Hobby niches, slightly into mindset psychic like Teal Swan but be careful. Or frame a niche who is little bit sensitive like Ralph Smart, be creative with that.

Think like Seth Godin I hope that helps you. Shame on these big evil boys who are "family" with big G not only that, they are all in the same global lobby club- it begins with W ...... you know the name. Then when all these family members plan to cover up google, so that organic serps not more exist then you (we all) do what? Then it's the end.....

For me a Plan B doing now, is go into obscure niches and use for organic seo DDG and Bing and us.yahoo.com (when that make sense?)

Hope it helps for you, oh man what a nightmare of organic seo world today....
No it's night in germany I go sleep and wish all here a good night !
Sad for your sites zocx.....
Also Good Night

Gray-hat SEO is about finding opportunities while managing the risk. It can be effective, but the mindset should be to reduce risk and build long-term value rather than find a loophole before Google finds it. I would say the best results come when you combine SEO tactics with a website that deserves to rank. A few things that help
  • Focus on relevance over numbers
  • Try to keep patterns natural
  • Keep regular backups, monitor rankings, track backlinks
  • Don’t rely only on one method. Combine it with quality content
I'll look into this insight...

Little gray hat secrets.....

First fix all crawl waste technical seo issues from your "first class cms"
multiple assets: one build authorithy yes with pillars, the other build topical authority - (not on subdomain and not on subfoldfer) but the mass not understand this.
learn scientific marketing - with that the AI will not scrape your content or when only a little bit, but will cite you as source

With this setup your are way beyond from the 90% of people who try it.....
Just curious though, what do you mean by "not on a subdomain and not on a subfolder"? How are you setting it up instead? Never heard that approach before.

Those are the best to run at the moment, first check for what keywords people are searching in search engines and what are the volume.

If you found such niche this could be your golden mine if it's white hat (not because i judge you by what you run, but because white hat is very easy to run without disapproval and bans headaches)... They exist, and they are gold for small players.

You either need to run in obscure niches or to have an entirely new idea that people will want to pay for. (talking about paid ads). Or do affiliate marketing but 99%+ will loose their budget or will make very little profit.

Since AI coding is super affordable today, you can release any idea into reality without needing a freelancer or anyone else, you just ask claude code and he does everything for you, so we are in both: a new golden Era for some people and in total s* for others :D

Sounds like a super idea to use these obscure not conquered by big media sites niches with ads to get traffic and make sales. Here I think google or Bing will send oyu good traffic not only bots. What Teal Swan and Ralph Smart are doing is a obscure niche too. (or how they framing it).

For myself I go into b2b because I can't believe that b2c people will spend on $500 retainer monthly courses or a membership with a $2500 monthly retainer fee, (coaching) to build a 7 figures business. B2C consumers will spend less, you need a huge amount of consumers every month.......

Happy Saturday !

the biggest mistake is trying to grow too fast a natural looking strategy with relevant content and steady progress seems to hold up better after updates

Yes, you can write with help of AI 5-6 articles a day that's natural because big G knows you are not a media news site (!) and enough of content , that's 120 blog posts a month. But not when you try to write 50 articles or more a day........

I'm curious about adult niches, do you build backlinks or do you have link building plans to promote your sites?

I keep risk low by combining gray-hat practices with a solid foundation of quality content, technical SEO, and slow link-building velocity while also diversifying the link profile.

In addition, I like to test new approaches on secondary properties before implementing them on client sites.

Have you seen better long-term results from using controlled gray-hat methods or from strictly white-hat SEO in competitive niches?

Gray-hat SEO can work, but it always carries some risk. Focus on creating useful content, building natural backlinks, and avoiding aggressive tactics. Test new methods on small sites before applying them to important projects. Keep your website technically strong and monitor traffic changes regularly. The best strategy is to stay close to safe, long-term SEO practices.
