Guest posting still works, at least in my experience, but where you actually place the article makes all the difference. Tested a few placements last year and the pattern was pretty clear. Posts on older domains that already had traffic and their own backlink profile moved rankings noticeably. The same content on fresh blogs that looked like they were built just for guest posts basically nothing. So I stopped thinking about it as "guest posts vs other link building methods" and started caring more about the actual authority of the site where the link lives. That's what seems to matter.

Can't agree. Now you need to check the performance of the sites you post on even more carefully and work through services that offer guarantees.

Guest posting still works when the site is relevant and the link fits naturally in the content. The problem is mass-produced posts on unrelated blogs. A few well-placed posts can still bring solid results.

yeah exactly. guest posting isn’t dead, low effort guest posting is. most ppl blast the same generic article across random “write for us” farms and expect rankings to move. google has gotten good at spotting those networks.
when guest posts still work is when the site actually has relevance and real traffic. contextual placement inside useful content still passes value.
also it shouldn’t be the only strategy. guest posts mixed with other diversified backlinks tends to look much more natural. once everything comes from the same type of source, that’s when footprints start showing and effectiveness drops.

Guest posting still makes sense when the article would be worth reading even without the link. The useful filter is whether the site has real audience and the topic fits naturally. I mean, one thoughtful contribution on a relevant publication is more defensible than a batch of generic placements.

I tend to agree. Guest posting itself isn't the problem—it's the quality behind it. A well-written article on a relevant website can still provide value for both readers and SEO. The issue is when it's done at scale with low-quality content and no real relevance. I think the focus has shifted from getting more guest posts to getting better ones.
