Our experience has shown that most gamification is just a marketing gimmick. For example, loot boxes are a complete waste of money unless you already have a huge influx of “whales.” Players see right through this trick.

But real-time tournaments and leaderboards have proven effective. We saw a significant 25% jump in retention on Day 7 (D7) as soon as we started hosting weekly slot machine tournaments. It turns out players love competing against each other, not just against the casino. Has anyone else had the same experience?

Most importantly...

The biggest trap is trying to custom-code this stuff yourself. We use turnkey and api partner as our iGaming platform provider, and having those tournament and promo modules built right into the backend saved us a ton of dev hours and money.

Experienced iGaming operators confirm that real time tournaments and leaderboards drive superior retention by leveraging player competitiveness, and using pre built API platform modules is definitely the smartest approach to save development costs and avoid technical risks associated with custom real time leaderboard systems.
