Best YouTube Growth Strategy in 2026?

Hi everyone
What’s the most effective YouTube growth strategy you’ve used in 2026? Is it SEO, Shorts, or audience retention? I’d love to hear your experience.
The main opportunity is not to choose either Shorts, SEO, or retention but rather to make all of them work in conjunction. With shorts, you get the attention of a person and with the long videos, you give him an incentive to hang around.
i realized that the fact of having one video watched is far less beneficial than building a sequence, which allows viewers to move through your videos automiatically.

I feel that the most important change is being aware of the fact that growing on YT is all about creating a journey for the viewer as opposed to focusing on every video individiually. While a compelling thumbnail will help get the click, the presence of related videos, pacing, and a purpose for watching helps build up growth.

First of all good content quality and put real value on your content after that SEO and thumbnail. If you do these things consistently you’ll grow for sure

A prominent strategy for 2026 is niche bending: combining a proven format with a different market/niche. Find viral formats in other fields, adapt them to your niche, and capitalize on untapped empty squares. In my experience, you should only use formats that you have sufficient expertise to deliver real value to your audience

From my experience, audience retention has been the biggest growth driver, combining Shorts for reach with solid SEO on titles and descriptions delivers the most consistent long term growth.

A strong thumbnail gets the click, but good content keeps the viewer watching. Both are important.

A strong opening seems to make a big difference. If the first few seconds are interesting, viewers are more likely to stay and watch.

You should invest more time and effort into short-form videos. They can help your channel grow much faster.

YouTube Shorts brings in lots of new viewers fast, and keeping them watching turns them into loyal fans. Using Shorts to get noticed and longer videos to build deep connection is the strongest strategy to grow.

its all on you ad your content, and these days Ai is in trend for generating videos, script ideas and voice generation etc. So growing your youtube channel can be challenging now a days because after the Ai everyone try to grow their channel through by the help of Ai so there is a big competition. That's why you have to post real content on youtube if you want to grow. There is another that you can use Ai+ human skills and creativity to grow you channel. This strategy make your content feel like real.

i would looks at the audience graph before i would changes everything. If the drops off is in the first 20 to 30 seconds improving the introduction will have more impact than making even more shorts and editing the tags.

1. Thumbnails
2. First 5 seconds of the video
3. Retention (after you nailed down the first 5 seconds)
4. Posting shorts

Of course, the growth depends on the niche you've chosen. You may get a few more people clicking in a popular niche but they will account for a lower % in growth.

I think the biggest thing is consistency + actually studying the analytics instead of chasing every new “hack”. Good titles/thumbnails can get the click, but keeping viewers watching is what really makes a channel grow long term. BHW has some solid discussions on this tbh.

Retention, however, has been the largest factor driving me recently.
short videos help attracts new eyes but long content will be able to convert them into vry actual audience.
search engine optimization is helpful too, but do not solely depend upon that.

Retention is the one that concerns me the most. SEO will grab the click while shorts will give the push initially but if users bail out earlies then both fail to contribute any thing towards channel growth.

It appears that topic selection is some times forgotten about. even a poorly produced video on something everyone is interested in could be better than a well produced videos that nobody cares about.
