Have you ever copied a competitor's backlinks and still couldn't outrank them?

I tried this on one of my sites. I copied most of the competitor's backlinks that I could find but the results were nowhere near what I expected and it made me think that maybe we sometimes give backlinks too much credit and miss something else that's helping those pages rank.
Has anyone had a similar experience? What do you think made the difference?

Yes i think this happens often Backlinks are only one part of the picture. Content quality, search intent, site structure, user experience and topical authority can make a big difference too. Copying links alone does not always copy the results.

That is something i have experienced as well. it may seem as though copying backlinks will be a solution yet rankings do not always depend on linkks. there can be many other reasons y someones rankings might be superior from better content to stronger internal link building to search intent or having authoritty within the niche.

We've never tried copying a competitor's entire backlink profile. Instead, we perform a link gap analysis to identify quality backlinks that our client is missing and prioritize those opportunities. Simply replicating backlinks rarely produces the same results because every website is different. Content quality, topical authority, internal linking, technical SEO, user signals, and overall search intent all play a significant role.

Even if two sites have identical backlinks, they won't necessarily rank the same if one has better content that satisfies user intent or a stronger overall website structure. Backlinks are definitely important, but they're only one piece of the puzzle. In our experience, the best results come from combining quality link building with strong on-page optimization, technical SEO, and content that genuinely addresses the search intent.

Many fail to realize that competitor backlink are just the surface of the matter. I would analyze the reason behind those page getting their backlinks it is often topic coverage, branding, internal linking, nd user behavior that determine who end up winning.

yes did few times, sometime it worked and sometime it doesn't .. it's all about discipline and keep doing the same boring things everyday until you see the name coming top
