One error that i see is the practice of treating linkedIn as a numbers game, whereby connections are accumulated without any consideration regarding whether there is any reason to remain connectied. Having fewer connections that know your work is better than having hundreds who do not.
I believe that the biggest mistake people make is treating LinkedIn as a medium where one need to shout and not connect. Individuals keep posting all the time without offering any meaning full comment or contacting other individuals for meaningful connections. It is often better to have fewer people with more genuine discussions.
In my opinion, the greatest fault here lies in attempting to project expertise rather than showcasing one own thinking process. I have seen many profiles offering great advice receive next to no engagement due to the fact that all postings seems to follow the same LinkedIn advice manual. For me, postings that worked well comes straight from experience.
ok but like how do you even balance thoughtful commenting at scale tho?? cause if your trying to network consistantly AND post regularly AND engage meaningfully on other peoples content — that litteraly sounds like a full time job on its own?? like is there a point where you have to choose wich one to prioritize or is the whole thing only sustainable if you go all in on all three at once??
The other thing that I notice is when individuals keep on changing their profile title, banner and bio but totally disregard their profile analytics. When there are no clicks on ur profile even after posting something on your page, it is not neccessarily about the content. By analysing the posts which get people to click on your profile and make a connection, you learn a lot.
One of the mistakes I think people make without realising it is trying to construct a professional image rather than exhibiting professional thought processes. Profiles tend to be full of accomplishiments and general wisdom, but it lacks personality, experience and true insight into opinion. people that seems unique to me tend to share their experiences, both successes and failures as well as smaller insights. People connect more on LinkedIn when they feel they were speaking with a person rather than a profile.
