Wanted to share a quick win. I took an old affiliate site that was stuck on page 2 for several high-volume keywords.
Instead of buying guest posts, I spent a weekend auditing the internal link structure. I used Link Whisper to find orphaned content and added 50+ contextual internal links using exact and partial-match anchors.
Results after 30 days:
Traffic spiked by roughly 34%. Impressions in GSC went straight up.

Internal linking is definitely underrated. I usually optimize internal links first, then add quality backlinks.

Very nice job there! internal linkks are one of those elements which u can easily miss but the effect they can give is huge if done right. it is great to see how some web pages got better just bcuzz it became easier for users nd search engines to find additionall information on the topic.

Page 2 to page 1 escalation itself can make impressions go 20x-30x higher. Almost no one visits second page in most niches as Google is answering everything on AI Overviews and traffic overflow is caught by top 3 results.

Internal links are goldmine in current time, you should have atleast 200 posts to see the magic.

I can attest to this.

I'll need to audit my internal link structure again, and write more contents around some orphaned pages.

many people jump straight into backlinking even before they get their website structure right. the use of internal linking will assist google to understand the relationship between topic nd also improve your high-ranking pages.

34% is a really good improvement from just fixing internal links. Many people spend money on backlinks before checking the links they already have.

That’s the part people miss. It’s not just adding more links, it’s making the important pages the closest hops from the pages already getting crawled. Clean internal paths move weight better than random link stuffing.

Be aware often such selfhost WP plugins internal linking too causing more crawl waste urls.

This internal linking works much better when you have a separate domain blog (topical authorithy) alle category posts well internal linked, on your main site is important too when you have that two domain setup. (not a subdomain)

Legit win, and the honest caveat from the vendor side of the fence: internal linking is redistribution, not creation. You moved authority the site already had out of orphaned corners into pages that convert it. Best money-free win in SEO, and also a one-time trick, once the equity is routed there is no second 34% hiding in the same move.

Two things to watch from here. Exact-match internal anchors are fine at 50 links, but if the plugin talks you into hundreds sitewide with the same anchor you have built an over-optimization footprint a reviewer can spot in a minute, vary them like you would external anchors. And Marco69 is right above, some of these plugins spray links into archives and tag pages, and then your crawl budget is servicing junk instead of the money pages you just promoted.

The sequencing lesson worth taking: route what you already have first, buy what you lack second. That 34% was always yours, it was just parked in the wrong spot.
