Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed that more creators are experimenting with longer TikTok videos instead of only posting short, fast paced clips.
Do you think longer videos are now better for audience engagement and growth, or do shorter videos still perform best overall?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

The short form like 1 minute are best for engagement as most peoples don't have enough attention to view a long form video........ I think they use long form video as they get better monetization from these compared with short form video

I think both can work, it just depends on the content. Short videos are still great for reaching new people, while longer videos seem better for keeping viewers engaged if you can hold their attention.

Unknown is right about the monetization side, the creator rewards program only pays out on 1min+ videos so tiktok is heavily pushing longer content in the algorithm to compete with youtube. but the catch is you still need that short form style retention. if you dont hook them in the first 2 seconds the video dies anyway. a lot of guys are just stretching out their clips with fluff to hit the 61 second mark and it ruins their engagement. best way imo is to keep the fast pacing of a short clip but pack more info or a multi-part story into one longer video

If the content is good then it is good. Otherwise shorts works better.

@Voxlane pretty much nailed it. The algo is definitly favoring longer stuff now because of the rewards program, but stretching a 20 sec clip to 61 seconds with filler is the fastest way to tank your retention.

honestly the sweet spot rn is somewhere around 1 to 2 mins IF you can actually hold them. otherwise short still wins for pure reach. test both on your own account and watch the avg watch time, thats the only number that really tells you what works for your niche.

It depends on your niche. Longer videos help retention if your content is attractive, while short clips are safer for new creators.

i thiink both formats still have a place. short videos are good for quickly getting new people but longer videos seem to do better if the content is really interestting nd people want to watch it. i would just focus more on making interesting content not on the length of content.

The way to approach it would be through the viewers intentions rather than the length of the video. a 20 second video can be more effective than a two minute video if the message was conveyed within a shorter part of time, while longer videos would work well if the topic itself arouses sufficieint interest among the viewers.

In my opinion, the length of a video isn't as important as its content.

I've had better results with shorter videos overall. Long videos can do really well, but only if they're interesting enough to keep people watching.

The longer does not mean better videos. For me, the main change is that TikTok values longer engagement rather than videos with some minimum time. For example, 45 second videos could be way more effective than 2 minute ones. It is important to test out all video lengths with regard to their engagement rates, bcz audiences differ depending on the niche.

In my opinion, it is not about the length of the video, but rather the video earning more seconds from the viewers that matters. If longer videos have each segment compelling enough for the viewers, they will end up by engaging with longer videos much more than short clips and conversely short videos can also be compeilling enough for viewers if the concept suits such length.

Longer videos build trust and monetize better as the algorithm favors deeper content, but short clips still rule quick viral reach the veteran play is using short videos as reach funnels and long videos to retain loyal fans.

the creators i believe make the most effective use of either of them do not favor any particular format. short videos can act as a tool that is used to capture the audiences atention while the longer videos serve the purpose of keeping them enggaged. the main thing that comes into play here is retention. if the longer video manages to keep them interessted then the platform will push it.

It depends on the content. Short videos usually get higher completion rates and are great for discovery, while longer videos can drive deeper engagement and watch time if they stay interesting from start to finish. The key isn't the length, it's keeping viewers hooked in the first few seconds and delivering value throughout.

Short videos still work best for quick reach, but longer tiktoks can build stronger engagement if the content keeps people watching. The best approach is testing both and tracking retention not just views.
