Contextual PBN links usually provide better value because they're surrounded by relevant content and look more natural.
Sidebar links may still work for boosting authority, but I wouldn't rely on them as the main strategy in 2026.
They can still move rankings in some cases but they also carry more risk than contextual links and i would rather build strong contextual links on relevant sites if the goal is steady long term results.
Sidebar PBN links aren't completely dead, but search engines seem much better at identifying sitewide patterns now.
I'd invest in relevant contextual placements with strong content instead of chasing volume.
sidebar links have always been difficult to evaluate because they can create impressive-looking numbers without necessarily creating meaningful authority.
if one site is linking to every page on another, i'd be asking whether that pattern makes sense naturally rather than focusing on link volume.
i'd rather have a handful of contextual links that genuinely fit the content than hundreds of sitewide links that exist purely because they can.
