From what I've seen, audience retention tends to have the biggest long-term impact. Good content that keeps viewers watching often performs better than relying on SEO or Shorts alone.

One thing that I have found out is that the first video viewed may not necessarily be the important one . Creating a growth loop where the viewer of the first video is driven to the second related video is key in establisihing an audience for your videos.
 
Retention's the fkn foundation everything else sits on — Shorts might get u discovered n SEO might get u searched, but if ur audience retention graph looks like a ski slope 20 secs in, the algo straight up stops recommendin u regardless of how good yer titles/thumbnails are, so fix the hook n pacing b4 obsessin over anything else

In my opinion, the main benefit is to provide the connection between the videos, not to treat each new upload as something separate.
short videos may allow you to attracts attention, but without any clear reason for users to explore your long form content further, the reach will be gone shortly.
Topic clusters with relevant videos are more beneficial for me than just trying to have as many uploads as possible.

the approach that has proven most effectiive for me is creating a uniform style for my content rather than depending upon any particular strateegy for growth. As the audience will be familiar with what they r going to see nd come back again nd again to watch something alike the process of growth becomes far more stable.
 
The gateway for anyone to click your video is thumbnail, and then ofcourse the video retention factor...however one of the most effective tricks is also creating videos on topics that are already getting millions of views from your competitors in your niche, yes its the same topic, but cover a different angle of it that the viewers haven;t heard or seen about. Even if it is the same angle, still it will work.
 
Yep, I myself subscribe only to channels that are focused on one niche that do it well. So do most people; and I never find people from shorts
 
Audience retention without a doubt Getting views is one thing, but keeping people watching is what really helps a channel grow.
