Are Instagram Reels Still Delivering the Best Organic Reach?

While Reels continue to be the best format for organic reach across many niches, they are not the only element that counts. Usually, a combination of Reels, carousels, and Stories produces good results, and the key factor here is the quality of the content and its engagement rather than the format itself.

In insta reels still work on raw reach. They are the only format that gets pushed to non followers at scale through Explore, or the reels tab

Yes, Reels remain effective for organic reach provided that the posts are engaging and consistent.

Of course! Reels will always work for organic reach when you post interesting and consistent videos.

Reels still seem to get more views, but I've seen carousels do really well too.

Hi there! In my experience, Reels still offer the highest potential for reaching non-followers because Instagram's algorithm is designed to push short-form video to new audiences. However, the organic reach isn't as 'free' or automatic as it was a year or two ago.
Right now, the algorithm heavily prioritizes saves and shares over just views. Interestingly, Carousels (multi-image posts) are making a huge comeback for engagement and building deeper connections with your existing audience. The best strategy right now seems to be a mix: Reels for discovery, and Carousels for retention."

Reels remain Instagram's strongest discovery tool, but combining them with carousels can maximize growth.

Reels are still the best for reaching new people. But I don’t rely only on them. Reels bring the reach, while carousels and stories help build trust and keep the audience engaged. A mix of all formats seems to work better long term.

Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed that many creators continue to prioritize Reels as part of their Instagram strategy.
Do you think Reels still provide the best organic reach on the platform, or are other content formats starting to catch up?
Would love to hear your experience.
Reels still appear to be the most effective way for discovery, particularly if you need to reach someone who does not follow you yet. However, I would not rely on views as the only one metric of success bcz sometimes the small carousels can generate higher no of saves, profile visits, and followers. in my opinion, the most effective method is to use reels to grab attention and then convert it.

It’s clear that reels are still king when it comes to discovery, although i would never consider them solely on the basis of views. I have seen how much reach a reel could generate without bringing any new followers, while a carousel would sometimes have less reach but far bettetr profile clicks and saves. In my opinion, the best tactic is Reels to grab attention and then other formats to keep them engaged.

From what I have seen, Reels still tend to have the strongest discovery potential because Instagram can push them well beyond your existing followers. That said, I would not ignore carousels, especially for educational or highly saveable content, since they can sometimes generate stronger engagement even if the initial reach is lower.

Have you noticed whether your Reels are reaching mostly non-followers or your existing audience? I ask because that is usually the clearest sign that Reels are actually helping with discovery.

Also, what kind of content are you posting? I ask because the best format can vary a lot between entertainment, education, personal brands, and product-focused accounts.

Reels may have continued to be the primary reach tool for me although I could never jsst chase views. My more successfull posts included carouisels which have less reaches but way more profile visits.
