Frozen Ground in the Netherlands in July

Had an interesting phenomenon happen early this morning in a region of the Netherlands over by the german boarder. Ground frost. In July.

Apparently it has to do with the incredibly dry weather and very sandy soil that has no moisture in it. Since the nights have been pretty cool, going from 20 during the day to 11, this super cooled that sand.

Kind of a cool thing to read about with your morning coffee.

You are lucky to have this kind of weather in July. Meanwhile, we are just struggling with the heat and hoping for some relief.
 
This is rather bizarre considering it’s July! The confluence of all of these elements clear skies, dry sandy ground, and low humidity levels .does have the potential to produce some peculiar local temperature results.
 
July frost in the Netherlands? Great, I guess summer just forgot to check the calendar. Next we will be making snowmen in a beach trip. Nature really enjoys keeping everyone confused.

Pretty much had that last month with a really weird hail storm!
 
India and Europe saw the worst heatwaves this year. At some point, 97/100 hottest cities were in India. If super El Nino develops, then we'll see many strange things this year.

weather has been completely glitched lately. hard to plan anything when it goes from a heatwave to literal frost in a few days... sandy soil losing heat that fast is crazy though. microclimates are wild.
 
That's pretty wild. Frost in July is the last thing you'd expect. It really shows how dry soil combined with cool nights can create some strange weather. Nature always finds a way to surprise us.
