One strong domain or 100 average ones?

Quality, not quantity, is my preferred choice these days. It tends to be easier to develop a domain that has a great history and purpose behind it rather than maintaining many mediocre ones that may never even see any use at all.

Google dings sites all the time. For seo affiliate projects, if you rely solely on one domain you will be out of job, out of money in no time.

I will not recommend either version. Better to get few high quality domains like 2-3 as google can get that good domain you talk about deranked so is best to have few domains but not to many that will get the quality of the post down and you will manage to many accounts that is my point

Middle ground for me... I keep a small number of good domains for the actual money sites and then a few cheaper ones I can burn or test with. Renewals do add up fast tho, so I've killed a lot of "might be useful later" domains that just sat there for years doing nothing.

Honestly if you're not building on it within a few months, its probably dead weight. @khaosticc makes a fair point about managing too many accounts too, spreads you thin.

A high-quality domain name is worth as much as dozens of ordinary domain names.
Yes, if it is truly high quality.
Hold one strong premium domain, no contest. Spreading resources across average domains just bleeds renewal fees while building zero real authority. In modern SEO, stacking link equity, E-E-A-T, and topical depth on a single trusted entity beats managing a graveyard of mediocre sites every single time.
For a serious long-term site, I agree with this.

I also agree on killing the "might be useful later" names. If nothing is being built and there is no clear plan, renewals just keep the idea alive without moving it forward.

I can see that. A domain with real history and a clear purpose is much easier to commit to than a pile of “maybe useful later” names.

Maybe the better answer is one strong main domain, but still keeping a few separate test or backup domains instead of putting everything into 100 weak ones.

That middle ground makes sense. Thanks for your idea.
