I'm still learning Local SEO and wanted to hear from those with more experience
If you could give one Local SEO tip to someone just starting out, what would it be? It could be about Google Business Profile, citations, reviews, local keywords or anything else
I'd really appreciate hearing what has worked best for you

@Daniel Emmanuel if you want the single biggest ranking factor for GBP right now, it is still having your main keyword in the business name. Google guidelines say not to do it unless it is your legal name but literally everyone does. Just be careful because competitors will spam report you if you go too crazy with it. Best way around this is registering a cheap DBA with the state that has your keyword in it... then you have the paperwork if Google suspends you and you need to reinstate. Nothing else comes close to the ranking boost this gives.

For me, getting genuine customer reviews consistently made the biggest difference. A well-optimized Google Business Profile is important, but fresh, authentic reviews helped improve both visibility and trust much faster than I expected.

Getting good reviews from customers has been a game changer for my business.

Everyone is answering "reviews" and that is not wrong, it is just half the answer.

Google names three things for local results: relevance, distance, prominence. Distance you cannot change, your customer is where they are. Relevance is a properly filled-in profile, which is one afternoon of work, so everyone already has it. Prominence is the only one with headroom left, and Google's own wording is that it comes from reviews and from links pointing at the site.

Most people do the reviews half and stop. The link half is how a competitor with a thinner profile and fewer stars quietly beats you in the local organic block under the pack. A plumber we work with in Ottawa sits at DR 43 with 39 keywords in the top 3, and none of that came from his GBP.

Works, no argument. Just know you are renting that ranking from whichever competitor gets bored enough to file the spam report.

what i see allign with what others have said if customers are happy and leave reviews will generally get better ranking and more oportunities for you

the key method which helped me to succeed in this instance is maintenance of the uniformity of data provisio

Choose correct primary category this will move rankings more than anything, and it's one of the most common things businesses get wrong

One of the biggest lessons for me is to focus on building trust. Keep your Google Business Profile complete and updated, earn genuine customer reviews, make sure your business details are consistent across directories, and create content that's relevant to your local area.

Once the foundation is done, local backlinks and brand mentions can make a noticeable difference, especially in competitive markets.

There is a lot of advice about local seo so it is not always clear what deserves the most attention I’d really like to know which one change made the biggest difference for others and if the results held up over time
