I've been diligently learning automation with Python for some months now, and I will say I'm now fairly comfortable with Python. I'm beyond knowing it's syntax, and core functionalities, learning to read and use the docs about a given module is what I'm learning for now.

But somehow it as if a harsh reality has dawned on me. I created Upwork, and fiver accounts trying to source for freelance jobs even if I'm paid peanuts all in a bid to gain more experience. I fervently bid for jobs I know I can do but so far I'm yet to secure any, even after 3 weeks and spending $35 for connects. I'm poor and $35 can carry me and my family for almost a week. It was painful spending it with no single returns.

I intend sending DMS on forums and social media platforms for freelance automation jobs, VA jobs but that can look spammy which will end in account restrictions. In my shoes what will you do?
 
Advertise on BHW
Build a SaaS service, build bots for cryptogames and renting the bots, or learn a bit more and become an AI engineer. AI engineers are in very high demand rn and they get paid a lot if you can find a remote job that is.
 
I'd stop chasing marketplaces for now direct outreach to small businesses usually has less competition and gives beginners a much better chance.
 
A strong portfolio can open more doors than sending dozens of applications.

Real examples of your work help potential clients understand your value faster.
 
I think you should take the initiative to look for jobs in Facebook groups and demonstrate your skills to potential clients. Most importantly, be patient.
 
You have to have more patience marketplace jobs start slow . A better way will be do do email outreach to other businesses who may need your expertise and experience

Yes but the thing is local companies will want to see certs if they are IT inclined. They will know which ones to ask for. OP is still starting. I would suggest for him to try to get freecourses. On the subject if people are aiming for such a thing.

I have some portfolio. I built a scraper that scrapes products listing from an e-commerce site. Clean the scraped data, and uploads it to an excel file. I have coded some Excel automation tool, and lots more

Yeah, that's what I intend doing now. I started with Upwork, fiver, and Reddit which were not really worth it I must say. Reddit was very frustrating, just a simple helpful comment or even asking questions got my accounts blocked.

Thank you very much. I will be targeting small businesses, on FB , LinkedIn , and other platforms going forward. I appreciate your response
 
Try building ebay tools and target sellers on twitter, it pays better to sell tools that solves everyday problem than messaging people just for hiring sake.
 
I'd focus on one niche instead of offering general Python automation. Build a few small portfolio projects and reach out directly to businesses that could benefit from them. In my experience, direct outreach is often easier than competing with hundreds of freelancers on Upwork.

I just think a lot of smaller businesses care more about whether you can solve their problem than what certificates you have.

Showing real tools you’ve built makes it much easier for clients to see what you can do. yea
 
Find a proper full time job if you are struggling financially. Making money online is for people who already have significant amount of money to invest before they could make significant income. This is the harsh truth

I really appreciate your hardwork
If I were u I'll stop spending money on connects for now and build 3 to 5 small automation projects that solve real problems then use those as proof when reaching out to people.
Instead of sending random DMs find small businesses that could genuinely save time with automation and send a short personalized message showing exactly how you can help. your first client is the hardest to get but once you have real work and testimonials finding the next one becomes much easier. keep it up you are really close to client
 
Find small jobs on Microworkers or Picoworkers. You can create scripts for affiliate marketers and forex traders too.
